Ideal prequel book?

This is an idea that's been touted in several of the other threads, and rather than divert Fave character? any more, I thought I'd start afresh. Hope that's ok.

If you could have a prequel on any character from an Edding's novel, who would you pick and why? A main character, or someone obscure like Fundor the Magnificent? And would you stick with his 'main' works, or choose someone from Althalus, or the Younger Gods?

At this moment in time, I'm not sure myself, and my spelling's gone down the pan, so I'll be back with my answer tomorrow!

I'd love to know more about Fundor the Magnificent and the early life of Ormik the Warlike, gotta love those Sendars.

I'm voting for Elenium/Tamuli and really don't care which character (though it does go without saying I would like Ulath to at least appear in it) is the focus. There is a lot from that world which I think could be explored. It would be interesting to know maybe a bit more about Flute - she did say she willed herself into existence, and there was the trapping of the Troll gods and the uh .... mutilation of Azash.

I'd have to agree about a prequel to the Elenium. I'd love to see the scene where Aphrael forces Sephrenia to give the rings that control Bhelliom to Sparhawk and Ehlana's ancestors.

Mind you, a bit more detail about the thousand gods of Styricum would be interesting, too. They sound like a lot of fun.

Mmmmm.... just what were the Elder gods doing that was so bad it forced the thousand to come into existence as Flute mentions in Sapphire Rose. And how many other Elder gods are there anyways?

I wondered about that myself. It must have been something pretty bad for the Younger gods to will themselves into existence, and would it have been one god at a time, or all at once? A sequel (prequel?) to the Elenium would be an interesting read indeed.

I think I'd like to see a prequel or sequel on Oscagne and Itagne.

That sounds like a good idea, actually. Seeing what happened to the Frasier and Niles of the Tamuli in the five or so years between the end of the Elenium and the start of the Tamuli would be very interesting indeed. Afterwards, too. Especially if Itagne couldn't get away from Atana Maris.

I want a book on Zedar from hes point of view, I know he was a bad guy but I just dont believe he was all the time and If we get hes story we get a detailed account of wat happened in all of maloria at the same time.

Oscagne and Itagne were very interesting and it could be fun to read what happened to them from the end of the Elenuim to the beginning of the Tamuli. We would see more of Zalasta as well.

I think that's a bit of a nifty Idea.

Zombie, I agree. It would also be cool seeing more of how the Tamul diplomatic service works. How they handle the affairs of government before Sarabian becomes a real emperor.

I've also thought about a book giving more depth on Zakath's history; his transition from young promising emperor to psychopath.

I suppose none of these really qualify as prequels/sequels... more 'spin off' aren't they!

It makes me wonder why Edding's never attempted to return to any of them. At least the Elenium/Tamuli (as that was the one series not followed up with a prequel) and instead choose to write about other worlds. Would spin offs or prequels have made him a bigger success then Redemption or Younger Gods?

how about a book about silk's adventures previous to the belgariad...

@zombie, spin offs and prequels would have made him a bigger success than the younger gods definately, at least he would be more popular with his fans (judging by the topic about the younger gods)

What about a book detailing Sparhawk and Kalten's noviciate and early life - at the same time introduce the corruption of Annias and the beginning of the end of Aldreas

That's not a bad idea for a prequel, actually. The more I think about it, the more I like it.

i'd vote for Zedar... never truly evil, and certainly not an anti-hero either... Perhaps it could be told from his reflections on his life whilst he's entombed, alive, in solid rock.

from the Elenium/Tamuli... hmmm... only a god or sephrenia would qualify... so as much as i loathe her... Aphrael is the most likely candidate...
