Comic books disappointment me, as of late. The big events, crossovers, deaths, resurrections, and retconns have turned me off.

I wrote this article, "Trendoids, Gerard Jones, Good Comic Books, and The Great White Hero: Whatever Happened To Them?" because I'm getting more into the older stuff.

What are your thoughts on the state of comics. Does the writing seem to be heading in a good direction, or are all these big events just a short-sighted tactic for Marvel and DC to one-up each other? (DC has been guilty of this before)

Admittedly, I stopped reading Marvel a long time ago, as the storylines just seemed to be going nowhere. I didn't like the way they killed off big characters just to sell comics, and then brought them back six months later when either sales of the comic dropped off or public opinion forced them to. The one-upsmanship between them and DC was always a problem, too. These days I only read manga.

When Image Comics started to crowd in between Marvel and DC -- Superman died, Hal Jordan died, they broke Batman's back...It's interesting that both Superman and Hal Jordan are alive again.
