Ray Bradbury (Spoilers if you havent read The Illustrated Man)

Im reading The Illustrated Man at the moment and enjoying it to bits.

First i like the hole freaky and sad thing The Illustrated Man is and the short stories that come from him is very good so far.


Do you guys remember The Other Foot ? I liked it but at the same time i thought the end wasnt realistic, People dont forget their hate that easy specially if they remember their father getting lynched. Humans with hate are monsters you see that daily these days.Still i got a kick out of seeing The White Man destroying the world and coming to Mars the beg for help from the Black People.

When you get around to reading The Martian Chronicles, you'll find that "The Other Foot" is a sequel to "'Way Up in the Middle of the Air" from that collection... There are other connections between the two, such as "Usher II" and "The Exiles"....

I'm not so sure about people not forgetting.... For one thing, I don't think it was forgetting, as such, but the emotional blow of remembering Earth themselves, and the somber realization that their home, the planet of their birth, as it were, is gone now, too.... That's the sort of thing that we haven't had to deal with, and would quite possibly overshadow just about everything else.... Not cause them to forget, but certainly drive home in a way that's never yet been done the fallout (pun intended) of hatred....

I understand why they changed their mind about the white man but it still was alittle too sentimental end for me.

As I had said, I just finished reading The Highway, my favorite story so far however has been Kaleidescope. I thought it was interesting how all the characters reacted differently to imminent death.

I'll see how many of the stories I can get through this evening.

I have only read up to The Highway which i thought wasnt as good as the first three.


My fav so are The Veldt then Kaleidescope and Then The Other Foot.

I just started reading The Fox in the Forest. I think I only have 4 stories left in the book. I should have enough time to finish it today.

Let's see... my three favorite stories out of The Illustrated Man were; Kaleidoscope, The Long Rain, and Zero Hour. All the stories felt as if they could have been episodes in the twilight zone or the outer limits. Out of the eighteen stories I believe only two actually had a feel good ending, which made it kind of depressing when reading half a dozen of them at a time. It was strange to read about characters when you knew it was likely to end badly for them, very much the opposite of most stories where the protagonists live though incredible circumstances and live to fight another day.

Zero Hour was my favorite story out of the bunch. It was fun to read the story and know what the children were up to while the parents weren't really paying attention. You could see what the inevitable ending had to be early on in the story.

I also really enjoyed The Long Rain, the description was outstanding, I could just imagine the constant rain driving the characters mad like a sadistic water torture. Nowhere to hide from the rain, soaking wet, and over time the rain feeling like needles pounding into their heads. It also helped that it was raining while I was reading the story.

Interesting, i havent finished yet got sideracked by a certain cyperpunk book.

I will finish later tonight and see how the rest of the stories are.
