The edge of the world. Yes, really.
10 Future Web Trends

We're well into the current era of the Web, commonly referred to as Web 2.0. Features of this phase of the Web include search, social networks, online media (music, video, etc), content aggregation and syndication (RSS), mashups (APIs), and much more. Currently the Web is still mostly accessed via a PC, but we're starting to see more Web excitement from mobile devices (e.g. iPhone) and television sets (e.g. XBox Live 360).
What then can we expect from the next 10 or so years on the Web?

A subcutaneous iPod? I have no clue. It moves too quickly for me...technology. The second I think I've got a cool gadget or gizmo (or my sons, for that matter), that's when they come out with something better and cooler *sigh*

I think most people will be hardwired to the Internet at some point, maybe with 3D screens on the back of glasses, and a built-in microphone and headphones to the skull. Instant access to Google by a single thought would be so useful.

I personally have a "uck!" feeling about it, but I can see a time coming when anyone who wasn't hardwired would be disadvantaged. Obviously, there would have to be some way of overcoming viruses.

We talked about this before in threads here. I quoted Woody Allen before from 'Sleeper' about my brain being my second favourite organ, and how I wouldn't want anyone to mess with it!

Without question, complete corporate stranglehold of the internet will be amongst the most impactful new trends we'll see. As a matter of fact, the F.C.C. and the U.S. Senate are presently holding hearings on this matter as we speak and are under tremendous pressure from their corporate masters to find in their favour. It's just a matter of time before small, privately operated online forums and merchants will be shunted to the margins by big money interests dominating every facet of this new media. Mark my words, it's coming sooner than you think.

Sad but true :(

It's going well so far, younger Harpo, although things aren't vastly different.

Maybe give it another ten years?

Would you still choose being entirely offline instead of online?

If that makes any sense...

It's a pity your link in post one is now a "page not found"
That's happening more and more as sites get updates, info is being lost forever.
When I was a technical author in the nuclear industry, a few years ago, this became a recognised risk. A uk wide department was set up to ensure all critical paperwork was also preserved in hard copy with indexes to locate it all.Flameproof storage in two locations.
I had some interaction with these people, deadly dull personalities and very work focused. Recruitment clearly picked the ideal folk for such a job.
