My favourite series is probably Next Gen, followed
I love DS9 - i lot of other Trek fans i know do not. I just think it's amusing how everything starts off great and happy. The highlight of the day would have been Nog and Jake stealing root beer from Quarks. Then the Dominion came along and the series became more of a wartime drama. All the characters changed because of the war and Sisko became a hardened war veteran - different to the fresh faced Commander who stepped on to the station 4 or 5 years ago . I think the effects of the war on the main characters was shown extremely well by the writers which made for a great series.

Anways - best DS9 Character?

Mine has to be Sisko - for the reasons mentioned above. Also, Garek - the unlikely hero. He is a very mysterious character - who saves the day more than a few times. And who can forget the episode 'Empok Nor' when he goes proper insane. He is extremely funny and witty too...

DS9 is probably my favorite Star Trek show. It's the only one with a long-term story arc, and it has the most well-developed characters. I've always thought it was very underrated by other fans.

I have a hard time thinking about an actual favorite character, because they all did so well. I think my favorite used to be Jadzia Dax, if only because her background was so intriguing. I'm not sure I would single anyone out now, though.

The key to the success of DS9 is the ensemble nature of the show. And not just the main cast. The sheer number of regular guest characters who were woven into the show's tapestry became as much a part of the seven-year storyline as Sisko, Kira and the others.

That said - if I have to choose a favourite, it would be Garak.

I've got to agree with that, and it is the relationships that work best. I love the Garak - Julian interactions, the O'Brien - Julian interactions, and the Quark - Odo interactions.

O'Brien has to be my favourite with that brilliant accent of his. Always is calm and he's the first person that comes to mind

DS9 is pretty good. Garak and Quark were cool, though I had quite a thing for Jadzia.

O'Brien was great - completely unlike your normal 'hero'. He didn't even look the part. Garak was one of the best supporting characters of any of the series. It's hard to chose though - some of te best character development happened on this series - it's different premise really allowed this in ways that the other shows did not.

Garak, Garak, Garak, Garak, Garak, Garak, Garak, Garak, Garak, Garak.

O'Brien all the way, just an ordinary guy doing an ordinary job and going home to the wife and kids.....eventually. Interestingly, there really is a Miles O'Brien working for NASA.

Quark, always looking for a quick way to make more gold pressed plaitinum. His dealings with Odo in the earlier episodes were great.

I also quite liked Ducat when he became the evil nemesis to sisko and took over the other space station (Terak Nor?)

Good to see so many Garak fans!!!! :):):)
He's easily my fave character, in any series, EVER!!!!

Intelligent and witty. They did the right thing involving him more and more throughout the series.

As for other characters, yes, another O'Brien fan. I'd marry him - lol. He's just a normal bloke, I loved when he swore that episode Molly goes missing, cause that doesn't happen on ST does it?! lol. I used to really like Kira at the start of the series but she lost her edge. I can see why, she didn't need to be so hard nosed now the occupation was over but I missed that no-nonsense attitude - lol. I came to like Julian too, he was such a sleaze to start with, but he matured quite well. And I had a soft spot for Quark. ;)

DS9 is the best of the ST series, and that is mainly because of the character development. You can see how different people are at the end compared to at the start, how their relationships with each other have evolved, how what they've been through has changed them. Even minor characters are given a proper rounded personality. It would be great to have a DS9 film, but of course, it'll never happen. :(

The four that I found most interesting were: Garak, Quark, Weyoun and Gul Dukat. Garak being the most complex, Quark was the most human, Weyoun had some good smarmy lines and Gul Dukat the best fall into madness. The show was messed up a bit though by Sisko, his rubbish over and under acting and him just being in nearly every episode!:)

I like Sisko. Lol. it was Dax I've never liked. While Sisko was a complex character who was more than just a star fleet commander/captain. He was more than just a father. He was more than just the emissary. He was all those things and more.

Dax was a joined trill, and nothing else. I think they tried to make her more interesting by butting her into everyone elses stories somehow. She gambled with ferengi. She adventured with Klingons. She constantly rejected Dr. Bashier. She was Sisko's old friend. She was major Kira's more adventurous friend. She was utterly boring. Everytime she talked about herself, she couldn't help but mention that she had lived seven lifetimes.

I too think one of the real strengths of DS9 was its ensemble cast, including regulars like Garak. Another real strength was that story arc, giving it a compelling feel the others lack, and the "home base" effect, meaning the writers could concentrate on character development and character exploration, not having to set up new locations and background situations all the time.

I would find it impossible to choose one favourite character - all of them have stand-out episodes, and all have moments where I'm sick to death of them. But I do have a soft spot for Odo - and Worf. As annoying as Jadzia could be I thought she was a great "mate" for Worf and I still can't forgive them for killing her, for his sake! Not that I'm overly attached to a fictional character or anything. *shifty eyes*

Gul Dukat, definately. He was even great in TNG.

I'd go for Garak, if only for his take on 'The boy who cried wolf'...

'Never tell the same lie twice'

Honourable mention to Quark though!
