In my veiw if/when the unsullied ever make it over to the mainland...I think they are gonna have a godo tiem slaughtering anybody that gets in their way...cause they are like the spartan's...Extremely skilled and deadly fighters....But does anybdoy have any ideas on who could stop them and dany in that matter..help me out on this one

Unsullied v. Spartans

Never retreat v. Never leave your buddy's behind

Or was that the Sacred Band of Thebes?

as to this i don't know...But i think that martin either directly or indirectly..used the superior fighting of the spartans in his making of the unsullied...but i might be wrong in both cases

Ha! That was funny Boaz, although I thought they made a point of saying in the movie that those "boy lovers" all live in Athens. Anyways, I wonder what the knights of Westeros will make of the Unsullied.

Hmmm..I never thought of what the knight's would think of them would they underestimate them an then get slaughtered or what????

Do the unsullied wear any armour? or just their loin cloths? ive always pictured them as shirtless tanned blokes who never blink.

They have helmets I think. And Huge Shields if I remember. Either way they are like the Spartans.

They wear leather armor. It's talked about as part of the haggling when Dany buys them. They'll wear whatever you equip them with as well.

Would heavier armour affect their fighting though? If they have only trained with a helmet and maybe some leather armour, putting them in steel might slow them or make them less affective. Or are they that good that it wouldnt matter?

Does anyone think the Unsullied may turn on Dany? Do an order 66 on her?
I'd worry much much more about having an army made up by The Golden Company than The Unsullied. It's hard to imagine under what circumstances tDany's army would turn on her, especially when you consider that she gave them their freedom and they stayed with her by choice. Do you think it's possible SS?

I'd take the badmouthing good for nothing men of the Night's Watch (the loyal ones) above the unsullied any day of the week.

IMO the NW is underrated, they consist of the so called scum of the earth who do not hesitate to use any means neccessary to win. What's more they have plenty of experience doing just that. If you get them to obey you, they must be good. The unsullied for all their training lack creativity, and the strenght of fullgrown men, especially the strenght of men who have seen it all as well.

The unsullied are strong with numbers, they're tactics are based on the romans i think. Separate them, fight them in combat where they can't huddle behind their shields and they're done for when it comes to one on one.

Well, the unsullied are still men. Men are curruptable. They may realise they have lots more ppl than Dany does and take her over.

Men are corruptible only when you have something to off them that they want. What would you offer the Unsullied? Freedom? They don't want it. Power? No interest. Women? Duh :) Money? No.

The thing that is crucial to a conversation about these "men" is that they are nearly born into slavery, spearated from their parents, and raised in a manner that shapes and forms their very identities and psyches. They don't know anything else.

When even normal people are captured by enemies they can suffer from Stockholm Syndrome. Essentially, when a person is dependent on their captor for food, water, being able to use a toilet, light, air, etc. they can start identifying with that captor and liking, even loving them. Also keep in mind that any boy who shows any sign of weakness or the ability defy orders doesn't make the cut. These kids have to kill the puppy/dog that they are given to raise, and without question. They grow into men that have no identity other than that of being Unsullied. It's who they are.

I can't imagine under what circumstances they would turn on Dany,

Well, thats the question isnt it. G.R.R.Martin is a tricksy man. I just dont think the Unsullied will follow Dany all the way to the end. They may get to Westeros, but something will happen. Dany will need someone else to fight for her.

I have no idea why they may turn on her, i just like the idea of crazy stuff going down that turns things on their head.

Well, it may not have to be that they turn on her. Many things can and likely will happen between now and the time that Dany crosses over to the 7 Kingdoms. Any or all of disease, famine or war could decimate their ranks. I don't think tyey'll turn on her, but I can certainly buy something else happening.

They'll willingly sacrifice themselves to win her some great victory. It'll be tragic, poetic, touching, and will conveniently dispose of them before Westeros.

I wonder if we should make anything of the fact that any time armored knights in the Westerosi style go up against any foreign fighting style they get more or less destroyed... Syrio caused serious problems for a member of the king's guard with only a wooden practice sword. Strong Belwas fought a mounted armored champion on foot and it wasn't even close. Oberyn Martell could have left the most feared knight in the realm to die slowly and walked away if he'd been willing to. Jorah though that Kal Drogo could have cut a Westerosi army to pieces on an open field of battle.

If Dany does make it to Westeros with a foreign army intact, I wonder if the pattern will hold up and we'll discover that we've been seriously overestimating our knights.

Might be a question of tactics more than who's the better fighter, Illifer. Medieval knights just sort of charged at each other and mashed their lines till someone broke. The footsoldiers were pretty much just there to protect their lord and nick the armour of the fallen knights killed/ransomed by him. The Dornish were more sneaky and seemed to favour guerilla tactics which is why they're lightly armoured by comparison. I suppose you could put the Northmen from the Neck in the same category.

The Ironborn are another oddity in that they have no cavalry and use their ships for mobility and lightning raids against poorly defended forts/towns.

However, the Unsullied aren't as mobile as the Ironborn or Dothraki and not as sneaky as the Dornish. They may be difficult to charge head-on (or not depending on how much you like your horse to survive) but I would think they'll suffer the same vunerabilities against flank or missile fire and once their lines are broken, they're dead meat. Belwas was a gladiator who excelled in one-to-one fights which is why he's deadly but he's not an army. Belwas vs Bronn would be a fight I'd like to see :)

Oh and I don't agree with KiwiBird about the Night's Watch either. They may do 'anything to win' but they're not exactly large in numbers and they lost a lot of their fighting strength on the Fist of the First Men battle.
