And Not as it Should Be...

Have been out of the loop mainly because about three weeks ago, I took my mother to the eyedoctor (she had been seeing--or not seeing, as it were--a grey section in her peripheral vision in one eye) only to learn she had tears in her retina.

This prompted taking her over to another doctor to verify said tears...

That prompted making an appointment two weeks ago for surgery to correct said condition.

So basically, for the last two weeks when I was not trying to clean out my room (I took last week off for THAT reason, but of course played nurse most of the time so did not get as much done in the cleaning department as I had hoped), I was looking after my mother and trying to make her behave and to what the doctor ordered.

She is rather depressed. She thought she would just go in, they would zap her eye with the laser, and she would be back in action (she's a very active 72).

No, the surgery turned out to be more serious, and she is under strict orders not to drive or do heavy lifting or read (yes, that one is REALLY killing her--my mother is an avid reader) for the next few weeks.

I have my sanity still (there were times I questioned it). I got MOST of the room cleaned out (but am still in the process of putting back what I did not throw away or donate), and I have only just managed to start writing again (looking after Mom was almost a 24/7 job--she is So Stubborn).

So my silence has been due mostly to family matters and just not having time to get out here on the web.

This week, I am back at work, but on call in case Mom needs something. Also, I am leaving tomorrow for a convention in Atlanta, and I am hoping Mom will behave.

But that's life as it is...so far.

Tears can cause that?

Sounds like you have your hands full! Wishing you and mom all the best!

Sanity is over-rated anyways.

The retina was tearing loose in the separate locations.

When the retina tears free, it makes you blind...

Mom had three tears, and she had a fourth one that had healed itself ages ago. We think that MAY have been the time she got hit in the eye when she was talking the pool pump apart.
