Dianna Wynne Jones

Castle In The Air which is a very loose sequel to Howl's Moving Castle and NO she did not write the latter.

Yeah - that's true... Have you seen the animated version of HMC?
Yep, several times and I really liked it. Actually as a part of my recent visit to Japan and this year's WorldCon I got to view the original stroybooks and drawings from studio Ghibli.

Can I recommend the film Porco Rosso by Hayao Miyazaki to you? It's brilliant!!!!

I liked Dark Lord of Derkholm. I thought it was well written and amusing (Bah, can't express myself properly).

It sounded wonderful. I wish that I could of stowed away with you...so sad. Well hopefully after I finish school and save up a bit more I can go travelling.
Hope you had a great time.:D

Somni I know what you mean - I swear that as I grow older my volcabulary expands a lot but my I can't get anything out the way I want to...:(
I liked Dark Lord of Derkholm as well, but I will forever be a fan of the Chrestomanci series and Howl's Moving Castle.

Well don't forget it should be in Melbourne in 2010. You could go there I'm sure.

What do you mean Diana didn't write Castle in the Air? Her name is on the cover and the copyright. Am I missing some ever so subtle point here? I agree it isn't very good.

But don't get me wrong - I adore DWJ, especially Fire and Hemlock, Archer's Goon, 8 Days of Luke, Dogsbody and the Homeward Bounders. Oh, and a Tale of Time City.

I may be mistaken but the use of 'latter' implied to me that she did not write 'Howl's Moving Castle'. It does not say she did not write 'Castle In The Air'.

Since when did she not write Howl's Moving Castle then? Her name's on the book. It was published and promoted as her book. And it's listed on her website as her book.

Was very confused for a while there ... I have the books and was sure Diana Wynne had written both and yes indeed she did. They do seem to have been very much overshadowed by the animated version by Miyazaki though.

As for favourites, mine would be Fire & Hemlock which is the first book of hers I'd read. I've read it several times since the first time and it's still very much a firm favourite.

The other favourite is The Homeward Bounders, which created some images I'll never forget, especially the giant chained in the water.

Has anyone read Dogsbody. That was one of my favorite books as a kid.

Loved Homeward Bounders too.
