I went to a talk with Mark a couple of days ago, and am now curious to try his books. :) I know that The Darkweaver Trilogy came out before the Imperial series but Imperial Spy appeals to me a lot more, for some reason. I know that the two series are linked, but do I need to read Darkweaver before I get started on the Imperial books?

Thanks so much, and I'm sorry if this has been asked before. ;)

No, they dont cross paths very much. The series stands alone perfectly, but Darkweaver may give a background on what has happened in other places on the map and some of the characters.

The series finale, Imperial Traitor, does reintroduce some characters from the Darkweaver series, but you don't actually need to have read those earlier books to make sense of these references in IT. As Matt says, useful for background, but feel free to read the Imperial series first if it appeals to you more.

Of course, once you've read the Imperial series, then you may well want to go back and read all the Darkweaver ones too :)

The Imperial Trilogy is probably better, Mark has learned a lot since the Darkweaver books. You could read them as a prequel and not spoil anything (probably).
