It took a couple of goes to get into, but once you get past the slow beginning it's just a completely compelling read. I can't remember the last time I had so much trouble putting a book down. And once you've read this one you won;t ever have to read another Mars story because Ben Bova tells it all. It really reads like someone recounting real experiences on Mars.
The bad point is that I can't read anything else on Mars now without comparing. Kim Stanley Robinson's "Red Mars" was good but Bova had covered everything and more already and without slamming technical details and politics at every opportunity. Bova has written the definitive book about Mars. Go read it!
