Hi, new to the site. Was wondering if anybody knows the title of a sci-fi book I recently heard about. The plot is about oppression, and the more talented you are, the more you are loaded down to "equal" you out. The title is, I think, the name of the most talented character in the book, has the most oppression put upon him, but breaks out of that oppression, etc.

Thanks for the reply, but the suggested book is not it. It's actually closer to the classic 1984. It's more about keeping society under control. If I remember the description, they keep the masses equal by burdening them with objects to carry. The more capable, talented and intelligent, the more you are burdened. Take care.

I don't think that's Harrison Bergeron. Perhaps it's "Out On Blue Six" by Ian McDonald. I do think that book is much closer to what's mentioned in the first post.

Thank you very, very much. Harrison Bergeron is what I was looking for. Sorry if I didn't describe it well, and as it was described as a "book" to me, I thought I was looking for a book and not a story in a book. You guys at this site are the best!!!!! Stay well. Bobpacjr

Wow. I wrote a screenplay for school for this short story once. It's a great piece of fiction.
