As you can see from the artwork, the new series will most definitely be marketed at a young audience, rather than the crossover styled covers that I've enjoyed in the past. However, I think the cover is striking and should win me some new fans. What do you think?

Hello Mark, how are you?

I like it! It is bright and attention grabbing and will make a nice new addition to my bookcase when it comes out in the future. While your previous series have both had a wide selection of fans of varying ages, the cover design of Dragon Orb will surely hook a lot more of the younger readers. I think it will do just fine.:)

Gorgeous! Nothing like a big gorgeous dragon to catch the eye! Can you tell us the artist? It quite reminds me of the artwork for the Xanth series by Piers Anthony.

That's a beautiful cover. Hard to imagine any child on the planet being able to resist that one.

Since there is cover art, I take it the book already has a release date? When can we expect to be able to buy it?

The cover is by David Wyatt, who did the wonderful cover picture of Smaug on his pile of gold for The Hobbit. He has also done covers for Terry Pratchett and more recently a string of covers for a popular series called 'Beast Quest' which are for a much younger audience than mine. I'm pleased with the overall finish. I've just had the roughs through for the other 3 books as well. When the finished artwork is sent through, I'll be sure to put them up here. The roughs do look very striking.

As this is the first of the series there is a long lead time, I'm afraid. The book is due for release in August 08. However, I have a deadline of tomorrow to finish the final edits! (So I'd better get back to it.) Apparently there was considerable interest at the Frankfurt Festival for international rights and so S&S are pushing hard in order to strike whilst the iron's hot and get the manuscripts out to the foreign publishers.

Ah, no he isn't the same artist I was thinking of but he's got some cool art on the shelves out there. For those interested go here: web
my favorite (after Mark's book of course!) is the artwork he did for The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents.

Next August is the release date? Sigh. We'll make do until then I suppose.

While I'm not a fan of covers with dragons on them, this is really eye-catching, and does look good:) Probably because he avoided any temptation to make it too complex.
