Gemmel novels in a series...... NOT movies

Was reading the thread where many have suggested movies being made of the Gemmell books.

For some reason I dont think that movies could do any justice to any of the books.

A series however...... this would seem a lot more feasible. A lot would argue that there is too much violence for a TV series, but then you could look at the likes of LOST and Heroes and they could make the series in a similar way to these. What you reckon?

If I had the money and the right technology I would seriously be willing to spend the time on this.

I see where your coming from. But the timelines are all messed up. I would assume your talking about the Drenai saga as they make up quite a bit of his work. I suppose in that case, you could just make several series of it, starting with Waylander and ending with Winter Warriors or even Swords of Night and Day.

Good idea alright. If the money and time was spent on it, i'd actually rather it was done like Beowulf. Then it'd look cool as hell.

Youre right about the timelines being a little messed up. Ive been trying to get my head around the whole thing and trying to figure out what occurred where. Its a pain!

Series wise, I was thinking exactly the same thing youve suggested. Start from Waylander and work your way through to the Swords of Night and Day.

Not too sure about using CGI, it detracts from the story and takes a lot away from the characters. I dont know, I guess Im just old fashioned like that.

Yeah, on second thoughts, your right. If it was made normally, like LOTR, then it'd be easier and quicker to make. Also, it'd be just better:D

Oh man I so wish someone would do this. It would be so awesome!

Druss, Skil, Waylander, Tenaka Khan, Decado they all have a big following all around the world. Hell, theres a facebook group dedicated to Druss The Legend and it has members from all around the world.

There must be someone out there that could do this. How about the guys behind the Heroes series?

Sorry mate, I love Heroes but I reckon that would be bloody awful. It'd need to be really dirty and gritty for it to work - maybe the guys behind Deadwood instead?

Never seen Deadwood. Ill have to check it out.

How about from the same guys that produced Life On Mars? I only ever saw 1 or 2 episodes of it but was quite impressed.

Was just thinking of which people would best play the parts if this was ever to come to fruition. Zachary Quinto should definitely get the part of Decado.

Its well worth checking out. For my money, its the best TV to come out of America for years (maybe even ever). Its definitely not for the faint hearted though - it's very gritty and the language is absolutey foul.

It wouldnt have to be CG.

But I would be very worried that it would end up lost as hollow, day-time tv slag. Much like Xena and Hercules.

Oh man that is the worst thought ever!!

Any person who comes along and decides to bring to life any of Gemmels characters in that fashion deserves to be stabbed repeatedly.

try following this one:

That's annoying, I can't post links yet. Google 'Drenai Timeline' and you ought to find your way to Drenai Legends which has a pretty comprehensive timeline.

It doesn't have any of finer points of the narrative, and it doesn't include Swords of Night and Day but it's very help nonetheless...

I am of the opinion that movies would be a great place to go with the Gemmell books however they would have to be made by Peter Jackson ( LoTR) or they might not work however the series angle would work fantastically. If the books were made into series' then i think the best approach would be to take book groups like The Legends of the Damned, The Rigante, The last Stones of Power, and produce the series like that. In the order of the books so to speak. They could be made like CSI, you know with the 3 rolling at the same time and crossing over whenever necesary which would be good.
