Susie, you're doing such a great job there in splendid isolation that I just had to reply to you. (even though it's sooo long since you posted this for the release of Confessor) I'm sure you've seen the threads on Terry Goodkind's work, and I've bought them all, mostly in hardback, and I would like to ask you, as the publisher, at what point does an editor say to an established author "this is awful" and suggest revisions? Paolini (not published by you, obviously!) had a character say "Oh woe is me!", which was toe-cringingly awful, but then he's just a boy, who probably hasn't read far and wide. In a fight scene Eragon leapt over the heads of 3 protagonists and as they whirled "He decapitated the lot....." It sounds like Victorian melodrama, although I had to smile because it reminded me of 'Duckula', something I watched with my children.
So, what was the point of Richard having subtractive and additive magic? he only ever used it to grow Khalan's hair.... No, don't answer this, there are forums all over, that debate everything about SOT books, but come back to my original point: once an author is successful, does the editor drop out? Patrick Rothfuss admits to re-writing BECAUSE his editor points out glaring inconsistences, but it just seems that in major series it's allowed to go unchecked, since (and this is my perception) "he/she's making major sales, it must be what thew public want, let them get on with it". Or am I wrong?

Just thought I'd mention as an add on to this thread that Disney have made a TV series based on these books called "Legend of the seeker" and it is currently showing in America! As of last November, but then you probably already knew this!!
