Just wondering, how big is the Westerosi continent supposed to be in relation to the eastern continent. Beacuse in the books Westeros doesent seem too big and the east sounds huge. But on a few maps I'veseen (not sure how official they are) They look to be not that much different.

I imagined Westeros to be about the size of Europe while the eastern continent would be about the size of Asia, with theire respective equivilents in the real world: the Free Cities sort of Mediterrenean/Middle East, the Dothraki Sea being the Russian steppe, Asshai being China, the Summer Isles are Africa, Valyria almost like ancient Persia, Slavers Bay being the Indian Subcontinent.

I think GRRM has said that ADWD will contain a new more detailed map of the eastern continent.

Cool, cos the Storm of Swords map aint very big or detailed.

I'll wonder if we'll find out whats faaar north past the mountains.

An nation of Wraith Squirrels coming down to kill Summer because he ate all their cousins at Winterfell........

But seriously, i think there is a dead empire, now home to the ghosts of those lost and frozen and the wraith of course.

Another thing, whats with all the self governing cities across the narrow sea. Hardly any actual countries. xD

I've seen a map of the entire world online, but for the life of me I just can't find it using Google. It was basically the maps of Westeros and Slaver's Bay with the rest of the Eastern continent sketched in around it, with Braavos, Penthos, etc marked on. The author claimed that GRRM had seen and approved it. Anyone any clues?

That's pretty useful. While we're on the subject of the Free Cities. Is the House of Black and White where the Faceless men are from, or is it a different thing?

There is a hypothesis floating around that that Wert or Raven is actually GRRM or at least his editor, but for the life of me I cannot find it. I thought it was in Everyone needs a Conspiracy Theory, but that's where I postulate Tysha=GRRM.

that's kinda set up like ancient greece and the associated mediterraenean world. athens, sparta, slave-owning city states like that.

Ah good point. Another point I'm making, I'm full of 'em today. The Sorrowful Men seem pretty **** compared to the Faceless Men. I mean why did that Sorowful guy bother throwing a Manticore at Dany, would have been easier and cleaner to just stab her as he walked past, surely.

Yes, these are very much like City States of ancient Greece. Has anyone ever asked GRRM if he used any real world cities or places as models or inspirations for those in ASOIF?
