I was reading an old book last night and in it was an interview with Isaac Asimov done sometime before 1975.

I thought I might share a few bits with you

What are the dangers you see facing mankind?

Asimov: I think it is extremely unlikely that mankind could ever be wiped out completely, but unless we take firm action now, immediately, I believe that we could destroy civilization as we know it with 30-50 years. We are rapidly heading that way.

That seems an alarming idea and an alarmingly short space of time.

Asimov: Well that is how desperate the situation is. At the present moment the population of the world is higher by far than it has ever been. It has doubled in the last 50 years and is going to double again, barring some control, in the next 35 years. So how are we going to feed these people. A substantial proportion of mankind is going to be in constant danger of starvation.

In addition with a great many people ill nourished, there will be an increase in disease. There would be a general unrest in the world, for even those nations we do not associate with famine, would be in a bad way.

I will share some more of this with you another time...............

A book I have had for years and years, called Strange Stories and Amazing Facts, some of it is quiet interesting. Its funny I have never read that interview before until the other day!

Thanks for sharing...:)

I've read very little by Asimov actually except for his foundation series.

GOLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that' s what i call a deficient reading diet:D
Read :
the End of Eternity
Caves of Steel
Thanks for the tip HSF.

As you know I'm fairly wide read, centuries spent under the Misty Mountanis can do that to a fella, in both Fantasy and to a lesser extent SF but I do intend to see to my education shortly....:D

I loved all Asimov's robots, especially Daneel Olivaw and Giskard, so I'd like to add:
Naked Sun
Robots of Dawn
Robots and Empire
Foundation and Earth
Prelude to Foundation
Robot Visions
Forward the Foundation.

I'd like to add that I was really glad to re-find this thread/topic? as I thought this website had been removed and that no new posts could be added.

The Caves of Steel is a great book Ben but I prefer The Naked Sun also with Mr E Bailey and R Daniel. It would be my fav. Asimov novel!

Very interesting.

What he said is what is happening today. Too many people out there starving. Kids dying of starvation every 6 seconds or something like that i heard.

About Asimov Robot books, making the movie poster cover for I,Robot book have stopped me 20-30 times for buying the book and reading that series, not smart advertising in my case for them

Every time i forget to tell my bookshop to order another version of the book.
