HI EVERYONE.
Been a while but just wanted to ask if anyone has read about HBO dumping ASOIAF?

Apparently they have an option for a King Arthur series.... boooorrrrring ARTHUR AND MERLIN AGAIN.....................

Has anyone thought about putting together a little petition and bombarding HBO with emails on a specific day?????

If we could organise it here we could contact all other ASOIAF sites to join in. PEOPLE POWER STYLE.

LETS SEE WHO's INTERESTED

Heyo KotD....

While yer reading this, hit yer back button on your browser and count down about 7 or 8 threads for the latest thread we have regarding the HBO situation.

There you the latest info we have on this site. Thanks to the inestimable and slightly cognizant Werthead.....

So, a petition to HBO. How geek, Star Trek convention-like.

Well, until the strike of the writer's guild is settled, I guess we might not see much movement on any new series.

Meanwhile I am enjoying the politics, sex and sin of The Tudors.

Whilst the King Arthur series is a potential problem, ASoIaF is a long way from being dead. In fact if HBO wanted to press ahead with a project at the moment (during the writer's strike) they're more likely to pick ASoIaF because the pilot script is complete and there is much more material available for them to start work on.

A representative of a 'rival' fantasy author was going around a few days back telling everyone that ASoIaF had been canned, which turned out to be a load of rubbish.

How many more King Arthur mini-series does the world really need? Geez.

Do tell who this 'rival" fantasy author is. If it's who I think it is, it would only further solidify my opinion of that loser.

Wait.....George has a rival?

Is this one of those one-sided kinda things....like the Yankees/Red Sox for 60 years? You cant really call it a rivalry if one side is consistently better than the other....

Thats like saying Peanut Butter has a rival for best thing to put on bread....

Damn Wert...why you have to carpsmack that chowderhead so damn effectively.

I will never ever disagree with you with making sure I have a reliable pair of Depends on. I may soil myself.

It is confirmed then Wert and it's who I thought it was. Good for you.

Sooo....who is it? I read that entire thread that was Werthead linked to and still couldn't figure it out. Terry Goodkind? Is there some reason the name can't be mentioned?

Dang, werthead, that was some kicking you gave the guy. how long did it take to remove your boot afterwards? :D

good shooting!

Well, the writer's strike is over. This should allow HBO to get back to work on ASOIAF. I wonder how many current projects they have and how they'll allocate resources to the project.

I am not patient enough to read that whole thread. I just picked on the ame "Jack Whyte," but I see you're pobably talking about Terry Goodind.

Who is he, and is he any good?

Oh, and is this like one of those Red Sox/Yankees disputes where the fan base cannot be mutual? In other words, suppose I read Terry Goodkind ... would I then be excommnnuicated from the GRRM forum?

Terry Goodkind writes the "Sword of Truth" series which, much like Robert Jordan's series, is currently on its 38th book. The first book, Wizard's First Rule, I actually enjoyed quite a bit. Beware though, there's a lot of "adult" content which can be gruesome but nothing anyone that reads ASOIAF shouldn't be able to handle.

Anyway, the gist of the series is that Goodkind has these two characters, a male and a female, and he tries to make them as miserable as possible as often as possible. Anytime anything remotely good happens to these characters, Goodkind will pile on at least 3 or 4 horrible events to make sure that you, the reader, fully understand that this is a bad bad bad world they live in. This cycle repeats over and over again and reading the series starts to resemble what I like to call "a chore". There's no intrigue; it's just waiting for the next horrible thing to happen. The main characters aren't even particularly likable. I stopped reading about halfway through the 4th book (the only reason I lasted that long was because the first book was pretty entertaining although it follows the prototypical LOTR/Star Wars fantasy formulas).

Enjoy!

suppose I read Terry Goodkind ... would I then be excommnnuicated from the GRRM forum?

Nope. You'd be expelled from fantasy forums in general. Terry Goodkind can write fantasy and disown it, all in the same day.

I don't know if I'd call Mystar a legend, but he is infamous. It is Mysterious that he seemingly joined a forum to discuss ASoI&F...

Well, I'm not about to read anything where the situations of the characters gets progressively worse and worse and worse and worse. I just cannot take that kind of crap.

But damn, I do need to read something. Also, I need it to be something that I can buy from an ebooks vendor. I am out of a car at the moment and not patient enoughto wait until 5 o'clock when my husband gets home.

Hey! maybe I will ake him take me to Barnes and Noble for Valentine's day. Any ideas on a series?
