I could swear someone wrote some novels that took place during or were about the Thirty Years War, they followed a soldier I believe or had lots of characters...anybody know of these? If so, are they any good?
Michael Moorcock's The War Hound and the World's Pain is about just that. It follows a soldier named Von Bek, who makes a deal with the devil. I just read it a few weeks ago, and yes, it is definitely worth reading. It's pretty short.
That is exactly the book I had in mind, I couldn't remember anything about it except that it took place during the thirty years war, and I just finished reading C.V. Wedgewood's history of the war and it re-sparked my interest. Thanks much!
