I'm new here, so I apologize if this question has been asked many times before, but does anyone know how many books GRRM plans to have in "A Song of Ice and Fire" series?

Hi Mriswith, and welcome to the chronicles network. :)

I believe it was originally planned as a 6 book story arc, but then as the writing progressed, GRRM seems to have less and less idea of what exact figures are involved.

In the first edition of the 'Legends' collection in which 'The Hedge Knight' appears, in the introduction it said 'ASOIAF is a saga which will span foru volumes when finished'...I have a version vhich came out maybe a year later and it states there will be six...

So I'm willing to bet there will be at least 8 :D

That is awesome to hear! His novels are truly amazing and in many ways...highly original. Well thanks for the info everybody!

I think that he will write two more books, perhaps three. I personally do not mind him ending this series as long as he writes some more fantasy. Let's face it he has much more succes with this genre. I think that he will try his hand at historical fiction next, the man seems to want to have his fingers in all the honey pots. He has so much enthusiasm for the imaginative arts, and is something of a role model for me. I hope to achieve half of what he has achieved one day....

It's definitely going to be at least two more books...A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons. But, I believe I have heard of another one with wolves in the title.

yes there should be three more.. though that could change, I did see on a web site that he had three more titles including the next one A Feast For Crows.

HAHAHA. When I first started his series I bought his first one by accident in a French book store. So I looked up on amazon all the others in the series and thought that A Storm of Swords was the last. I was ... mad. LOL

When I bought his book I had heard nothing of the man either... I don't live in an english speaking country so I didn't have a way of getting info of the sorts. I now do however, here.:)

Can I applaud also?:p

I picked up the second book(not reallizing it was the second in a series) at the library because I needed something new to read. Had never heard of the man and now I am completely hooked.:D

I saw that it was a first in a series from the book jacket (which is a hard thing to do in france as most of the time you find a 2nd or a 4th or something) and looked the rest up on amazon. However, by the time I opened up A Storm of Swords I realized there was yet more to come. I love his writing and his series.. I just wish the others were already out.

Waiting is part of the fun. Last year I was waiting for:Raymond E Feist's Exiles Return - the third in the trilogy.
JV Jones A Sword From Red Ice - the third in the trilogy.
George RR Martin's A Feast for Crows - still waiting.

i started a game of thrones with the crazy idea that the series was a trilogy. i'm not sure what put me in that mind-set, but i didn't realize my error until i finished a clash of kings and realized that NOTHING had been resolved. it was terrible, and great, until i found out that he hadn't released the fourth novel yet. that was two years ago. i just know i'm going to have to reread the first three before i read the fourth, and then, i worry that i'll have to wait another few years for the next novel.

i love his writing, and i love the story, but it's so hard to wait. i hate waiting when i'm dying to know the outcome.

I bought aGoT by chance... I liked the cover and I was wanting of some big book to be at least 2 or 3 weeks with the same... it didnt take so long... and i made my sister, her boyfriend, my uncle and my cousins read it... now thay are all waiting for a Storm of Swords being published in spanish...:p well not my sister she was like me she couldnt wait she is reading it in english... it is pretty difficult, but the willing to know what the Genius is saying is too strong...he is so good!:D

i read somewhere the title of the 6th book would be The Winds of Winter, which makes it sound lovely. i am counting the days to aFFC, in amazon they say they will publish it in July... please let it be true!
