Terry Pratchett has Alzheimers

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

Well, thats not good. :(

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

and we just lost Jordan... Terry is absolutely my favorite author, this is appalling. Hopefully the growth of the disease can be slowed and he can continue to lead a life full of things he loves.
How grim.

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

Christ, thats awful! I do hope things turn around for him and he can continue to do that which he(and his fans) loves.

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

Truly awful news.

(Alzheimer's is a condition that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. It is devastating to those who have it and, in a different way, to their loved ones. My best wishes to all of them.)

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

Just when I was starting to like his books! How selfish!

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

Dreadful, dreadful news....I just hope they can find a way of slowing down the onset and development.

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

Terrible news. One of the most consistently entertaining writers around, and one of the most significant fantasy authors of our time. But he's still here, he's got a few good years and at least a few more books in him yet. Keep fighting the fight, Pterry!

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

Keep cheerful, Pterry says. Few have done more for cheeriness in our age.

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

Oh that's truly, truly terrible.... You'd think pTerry is totally immune! It's never crossed my mind that discworld would come to an end someday. We are so used to having these wonderful books popping out each year and taking it for granted! I just wish some miracle cures for Alzheimer's will be invented before long!

Re: Pratchett has Alzheimers

Very sad news indeed. As Mark said, let's hope he keeps in good health for many years yet.

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

From the DiscWorldCon bulletin:
Before he made this announcement, Terry conferred with the organisers of the various signing tours and conventions to which he has made commitments, to discuss how this news will affect his workload and travel arrangements in the coming year. As a result,I can tell you that while it is very likely that Terry will be cutting back on the signing tours, he still plans to be at the U.K. Discworld Convention in August 2008.

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

My mom was afflicted with the same disease and also suffered a stroke. Now, there is a good light at the end of this tunnel. She lived until she was 82. There are medications and therapy for this affliction. I believe and pray that he will pull through with this.

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

Terrible news indeed. Still, it's good to know he was diagnosed early, modern medicine can slow the onset of dementia quite dramatically, if the disease is caught early enough.

Re: Pratchett has Alzheimers

Well - if you want some hope, I'm sure that I've read that Prof. Stephen Hawkings' condition should have killed him in around his teens...

Re: Bulletin from Terry - not good news.

Looks like Mort is thinking of sharpening the scythe for his biographer!

As El Pratt said himself - keep cheerful.

Time left for a couple more books.

:)
