I`m trying to find an old gothic horror movie

Saw an old black and white gothic horror movie years ago about an artist who showed various people his painting of an old house. But each person had something he required to make his painting more beautiful and so one by one they actually became trapped in the painting of the old house. I`m guessing that it was made around the 1930`s - 1940`s and would be grateful if anyone could shed light on it`s title.
 
Sounds intriguing.

I hope JD can shed light on this one as I would very much like to know too!!
