Jon Conninton

If I remember right, he was Rhaegar's best friend growing up. That's probably why he was only banished by Aerys rather being murdered like his other Hands.

The most specific mentions of Connington from Jaime in AFFC. I think when he goes to Harrenhal and looks at the bear pit, he runs into Red Ronnet Connington... and I think Jaime then remembers Rhaegar's disappearance and Connington's defeat at the Battle of the Bells... but I might be wrong on the location of this reference.

Yeah, another reference was by Barristan (Arstan at the time) in FFC. He mentioned he was in KL and Jeorah said he would probably claim he squired for Rhaegar. Barristan says he makes no such claim and that Mooton and someone else squired for Rhaegar. He then mentions how Connington was close to Rhaegar, but his best friend was Ser Arthur Dayne.

Either way, Connington became hand, lost a battle, got exiled and drank himself to death in the free cities.

Yes, not dead, I got a proper spanking on these boards when I said he was. :)

Am I missing something? Jon Connington is dead. Is this one of those theories where you guys say he's not dead and then say he'll be a head of the dragon and/or he's a Targ *******? ;)

He is as dead as Ned. I've never seen anything to disprove that or even hint that he is alive.

He is alive. The 'drank himself to death' thing was a cover story to stop Robert Baratheon going after him.

SPOILER:

It's been pretty much confirmed that he's in ADWD, and we'll see him in Tyrion's chapters.

That would be nice and all, but could u show me the spoiler? Like a direct link or something?

TK, out of all of us, I think you'd be the one to know about fun.

viz and CS, Wert is sort of our local expert on Lo Pan, err... I meant to say, Martin.

Cheers ;)

The info comes from a reading GRRM did of ADWD at a convention a while back. If you look on Westeros.org's forum you can find reports of it and several others in the ADWD subforum in the AFFC section.

No, not the last time I checked (although the internet could makes us be whatever we want to be). It's just no song about boys just wanting to have fun came immediately to mind.

I see this silly conversation just going downhill from here.

It was Jaime, and he was recollecting old memories. It was either just before their fight in which they were discovered and taken captive, or just after being taken captive by the Bloody Mummers. I thought it was when he and Brienne were tied up together on horseback just after being taken captive by the Bloody Mummers, but the more I think about it, it could have been just prior. But they were ahorse, and it was his POV.

His recollection of Connington was an afterthought after Brienne had yet again called him, Kingslayer, and Jaime says to himself, "Why does it always come back to that?"

He could have discussed Connington another time that I did not pay much attention to, but I do remember the one conversation he had with Brienne, which led to his aforementioned internal dialogue.
