The Hound and the Wolf Pup

I really love your drawing of Daenerys, I think you've captured her wonderfully, and the same for Arya. She feels like Arya, much more than your first.

But where are The Hound's scars? Do I just misremember and it is only the left side of his face? I really do adore her obstinate look though.

Tysha, Thank you very much for sharing your impressions with us. I'm honored.

This particular picture is very intriguing! As Felsteed commented, most people won't recognize the Hound without the scars. (Yes, Felsteed, the left side of his face is scarred but the right side is normal.) But by choosing to not show his scars, you've shown his humanity. All other pictures are quick to show his dual sides of victimization and cold brutality. Yet, you've shown neither... in the end, he's just a man. He may be mean and spitful and hurt, yet he's just a man.

Also, the picture shows what miserable circumstances they were in. Cold. Lonesome. Abandoned. Outlawed. Yet both have this inner fire that keeps them going.

At least that's what your art said to me... Thanks again.

Thanks! Well, she is Arya the wolf pup now and not Arya the little mouse as she was at the beginning :D

 Wow Boaz, thank you! I've cosen not to draw his scarred half because it's easier to draw lol. But I did want him to look human, with "I'm tough but I would never actually hurt this little girl" expression.
They both had a hard life, but I think Arya has more "cold brutality" in her than Sandor has.
Thanks again Boaz, you've really seen the heart of this pic! Your words are second best thing that someone ever said about my pics :D (The first best thing was about Arry: "This is lovely, Jenny. One of the best depictions of Arya that I've seen, better than many of the professional renderings of the character." GOD. *faints of overwhelming pride) :)

I have looked over Amoka's art (which billions seem to think his is the definition of this series for some reason), but I think your Dany pic blows his out of the water. I'll go look at the rest of your pics. Keep the good work coming! :p

I'm not an art critic. I'm just a regular philistine. I really don't know much about art. But the picture was not one that I expected to see when I clicked on the link. I have thousands of cards from the ASOIAF card game and I have the ASOIAF RPG book... both are chock full of art from the series. Many, if not most, of the pictures are basically portraits. Portraits are great, they convey the primary qualities of the characters vividly to the viewer. But portraits are staged... they show the character with his/her guard up.

Your art of ASOIAF is not made up of portraits. You've tried to capture the characters in a real life moment... i.e. when the artist (or camera) is not looking. You seem to try to capture the characters' humanity. I don't know if that's good art, but I like it.

I think a reason that I like it is because I know sooooo much about the characters you've depicted. If I'd not read ASOIAF, then the pictures would mean nothing... the point of reference makes all the difference. For example, Michelangelo's painting on Creation in the Sistine Chapel is astounding because the viewer knows the stories from the Bible. I assume that the average Hindu might think, "Oh, that's nice, but are there any decent Indian restaurants in Rome? I'm starving." The context and foreknowledge leads the Mar Thoma Christians from India to probably think, "Amazing! Dear God, thank you for creating me also!"

I've read J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings over forty times. So when the recent movies were released, I was intrigued by the visions of the director, producers, writers, actors, effects people, etc... They put flesh on my visions. I did not agree with all of them. Some outraged me, some astounded me. But as long as they were making an honest effort from Tolkien's creation, then it is indeed art and subject to interpretation.

I don't know the artist's mind set. I don't know if you were consciously thinking of any of this when you began or even finished your picture of Sandor and Arya, but it's what your art made me think.

Thanks.

I hate when Boaz posts a reply after my own. In comparison it makes mine own look indifferent and indolent to a degree. :p One day I am going to actually have to sit myself down and contemplate a deep, heartfelt post with much thought and emotion instead of my "have to go now so i'll rush this" posts. :)

Either way, as usual, Boaz conveys my very thoughts with his words, Tysh. I saw the rest of your pics and they are wonderful.

Also, after seeing so much of the ASoIaF art it is neat to actually be able to speak (in a ways I guess) with someones that I also like.

Indolent? I don't even know what that means! Obviously you've missed all of my "Neener, neener!" posts.

Seriously, all of our posting is speculation, prognostication, and favorites lists. Tysha has actually created something and taken the time to share it with us. I applaud her creativity and courage.

I'll go back to being my old unbathed, potato chip eating, beer swilling, reality TV watching, half dressed, sofa lounging self now. Wait! That's the definition of indolent... so if you have any extra beer and chips, then send 'em my way.

Charming Serpent - your words are much appreciated! Thank you very much! Charming indeed :D

LOL So true! Thanks again Boaz:) (BTW Boaz is actually quite popular name in Israel lol)
..potato chip eating, beer swilling..? I want to be Indolent too! (except the reality TV thingy..lol)

My mother did not name me Boaz. I took it from the Book of Ruth. He's an intriguing character.

Wow, awesome job there Tysha! I really enjoy all of your work you've posted here. Keep it up! :)

Before he consented to letting Tysha paint his portrait, he said "Well, okay... But make sure you get my good side!"

I can't write just "lol", cos it's to short for a message... so...
LOL

Boaz (as usual!) states my feelings much better than I can! However I only just discovered the beautiful drawings here and wanted to post a comment to bring this thread up on the list again for those who have not seen them!

The Hound and The Wolf Pup is great! Arya at her fiercest. I had hopes that if they stayed together he might actually gentle her a little, strange as that may sound!

Beautiful work Tysha!
