A few years ago i read Mythago Wood and loved it! Thing is I can't remember the other books in the series. Anyone read these? Also I have Where the Time Winds Blow which is pure sf set on a strange planet. Must get round to reading that!

Well timely you mention this. I was discussing this with JD the other day.

Victor Gollancz are putting out an omnibus series of the entire Mythago sequence. The first 2 volumes are out and I've been thinking about buying them. I only ever had Mythago Wood and my question remains to anyone out there who has read the entire series, are they of a good quality or do they deteriorate?

Mythago Wood was just fantastic, but the series does sort of go downhill from there. I wouldn't say the latter books are bad, really, just not as good as the first one.

I prefer his earlier sf - Where Time Winds Blow is one of my favourite sf novels.

If you like Mythago Wood you absolutely must read Lavondyss at the very least, because Mythago Wood is only half the tale. I rate Lavondyss if anything more highly. The Hollowing is also excellent. I haven't yet read the prequel so I don't know what that's like.

I've also read The Fetch, which is good, but is more of a horror story than fantasy.

The only one of Holdstock's that I didn't like too much was Ancient Echoes, I think because the main character wasn't very likeable.

I read Mythago Wood and Lavondyss a long time ago and enjoyed them - especially the intense, rather weird atmosphere the author created. The Hollowing has been on my "to read" shelf for far too long - time to get stuck in!

Re: Robert Holdstock/Where Time Winds Blow

Just checked up this book on Fantastic Fiction where it is listed as a collection, yet i thought it was a novel! The synopsis certainly reads like a novel. Or is it like Aldiss' collection Canopy of Time, and Asimov's I Robot,a series of linked stories?
