I've just finished and i think enjoyed this one. I'm never sure with Roberts, his style fascinates me, and tantalises me to remember something else.

I quite enjoyed this one too. Roberts once called it his 'Vance novel', and the tour of different worlds in the galaxy the narrator lives in is certainly remniscent of a Jack Vance travelogue.

Polystrom is next. i found a cache of his work in library discards.
I found it fascinating, how he built the entire novel with only the one main character. very little interaction or dialogue, which is usualy the death of a novel, and yet, this one managed just fine.

Whoa thanks Rune, you're pretty quick on the draw...

I read Roberts comments on Polystom and its looks quite promising actually. OH well, just another to add to the To Read list...:(

Well, Polystom is Roberts' exploration of the old twist-in-reality plot. It's basically about a young man named Polystom, a sort of aristocrat, whose grandfather is involved with an ongoing war his people are waging on an enemy planet. After his unsuccesful marriage, Poly decides to try his hand at this war business. Out on the battlefield, in the trenches, he is increasingly forced to confront the ghosts of his past and the very nature of the reality he exists within.

It's beautifully written, abstract in conceit and leaves you with much to ponder on, like all of Roberts' novel. It may well be my personal favourite of all his works.

Started reading this book last night. I'm not a fan of the whole "letters to an inanimate object" format, I must admit, but I can just about manage to forgive that due to Roberts' rather amusing method of faster-that-light travel. The "fast-space" and "slow-space" is quite cool:)
