Im 22 and a recent graduate. i expect i'd be 31 with a wife and a mortgage when "A Dream of Spring" comes out.

how old will you be? where will you be? Do you think we'd love ASOIAF as much as we do now?

At this rate, I'll be able to buy the last in the series with my first week's pension.....

<starts calculating>

Ok between Storm of Swords and Feast of Crows 3-4 years, and so far about 5-6 years for Dance, so we add two years between each book. He is aiming for 7 books i think there will be 8.
So thats four books more.
So about 24 Years, so ill be 54 years when last book comes out :D

If you told me when I was at school reading Eye of the World that I'd be 40 before the last book got published, I wouldn't have believed you.
Do I still care about WOT? yes, but not as much as I used to. Will I still care about ASOIAF when the last book is published? Yes.

But more importantly:

Would I rather wait ten, twenty years for a quality ending, or have something substandard hitting bookstores tomorrow? I can wait.

Amen Orange. Quality is key and GRRM can take all the time he wants. I will always adore this series and I have enough other things to occupy myself with and other books to read in between.

Oh, to be a recent graduate of 22 again...I would not lament the fact of being 31 and living the middle-class dream of a wife, kids and a mortgage. I'm there and passing it fast.

When ever this topic comes up, I find myself falling towards an abyss of depression . Crap, that reminds me of another *sigh* birthday next month. How come I keep getting older and still no new book!! The Giants pulled off a victory against startling odds, come on George you can finish Dance against the same such odds. Announcement next month please!!

Based on the ratio of 3 years each for ADWD (not sure where the six-year thing came from; AFFC came out in October 2005), TWoW and ADoS, the final book will come out in late 2014 or early 2015, making me 35 or 36 at the time.

I should be about 35 at the time.

I have the first four books sitting unread on my shelf yet, so I'll put this question out there - should I read them when ADWD comes out or should I wait for the one after that to avoid the frustrations of waiting forever between stories? Opinions?

Just read them !! You know you want to. It will feel SO good !! Don't worry I won't tell your parents. You can be one of the "cool" people, if you just try one !! Don't worry , it will be okay.

Blasphemy!

I have the first four books sitting unread on my shelf yet,

Sacrilege!

should I read them when ADWD comes out or should I wait for the one after that to avoid the frustrations of waiting forever between stories? Opinions?
*Wonders how you live with yourself.*
I was hooked when I started reading, and envy you for not having done so.

(Ever notice how similar your avatar is to Midnight's?)

It's because they're both from Canada.

Achh... I'm not that far North of Colorado. And we have Minnesota, Michigan, and Lake Superior as a buffer between us and Canada. :p

I just haven't started it yet because there were so many other unfinished series out there. I have plenty of classics to catch up on before diving into something I'll have to study on wikipedia before the next book comes out.

But maybe another question to pose would is- do you think that waiting between books adds to the over all experience of a series, or is it better to read all the books in sequence? Personally, I've always enjoyed being able to read an entire series or trilogy back-to-back.

It's because they're both from Canada.

You just trying to get my goat, Mr. Mountain State Man...well, yes, we have similarities with Wisconsin. Cows and football teams that play in snow storms (except Canadian football is played with a slightly large ball over 110 yards and with just 3 downs).

See kauldron, how we have the knack of just turning the posting in a completely pointless and unrelated direction. That happens more it seems when we are beating already well massacred horses.

I grew up in Dixie. That means anywhere that has snow is Canada.

In my childhood, America consisted of a fairly ambiguous triangle between Chicago, Denver, and Disney World. If it did not fit into my life's experiential triangle, then it must be Canada, Mexico, Texas, California, New York or some other foreign country.

I'm just trying to stir up a little controversy here... you know me.

Also, I think I'm just avoiding the topic because it's too depressing. So instead of how old, etc... let's think in terms of How many thrilling theories will we get to read? How many taboo topics will we discuss? How many polls will we make about favorites? How many times will we stray off topic? How many ASOIAF Christmas presents might you get in the intervening years, i.e. the HBO series, action figures, art, autographed editions?

How many of you will miss Boaz when the series is over?

I'm all for prolonging the enjoyment. Anticipation is one of the greatest sensations.

Are you telling me I look like a furry alien with antennas?

No no. that's not what I meant. That's a gorgeous pic of you!
You see, the roles are little switched. Instead of the strikingly gorgeous redhead carrying the furry figure, Rothgar is a furry figure carrying a red head.

Your catch phrase can be "Creatures of habit Enjoy the hour!"

*Hopes to get out of this one unscathed*

How many of you will miss Boaz when the series is over?
Boaz, we miss you already. Raise your hand if you can't get enough of Boaz!
