Are there any books out there written in the same setting as the Final Fantasy series video games which are mostly a mixed blend of Science Fiction and Fantasy?

Basically a world of technology (vehicles, guns, electricity) and fantasy (swords, mythological creatures).

I don't know, but if there were, I'd definitely read them.
I love FInal Fantasy.

The only one I can think of at the moment is Magician with Raymond E Feist. It has similarities to FFXII with the method of travelling (touching that gold stones, and the rifts seem quite similar). Also, the world that malimar (sp?) is in, reminded me a bit of a ff type world.

I'm a huge ff fan, and thats the only book I can think of at the moment that has reminded me of final fantasy.

It's also interesting to see parallels between FF12 and Dune, and A Song of Ice and Fire. But those don't feel like Final Fantasies, though they are interesting reads in their own right.

But I'm all ears for other's recommendations- the games are an interesting mixture of futurism, mythology, and just plain weirdness.:D

I'm tempted to suggest The Sunset Warrior (Eric Van Lustbader)

starting in a huge underground bunker, in post apocalyptic world, where technology and science has been forgotten but some machines still survive, to keep the air circulating and supply power, etc., and these are tended, nursed by the 'neers caste.

there is a warrior caste with swordsmen joining one of the various factions and an uneasy peace is mantained, but conflicts arise.

it starts more as a sci fi then changes more to fantasy as the book progresses, although most of the fantasy is in the second and third books.

OoooOOOoooOOOoo I would like ot check into that book, I like p-a stuff, and fantasy, so that like right up my ally.

I would recommend you to try to find Shadowrun novels, as those are full of fantasy creatures riding with the modern and the tomorrow world technologies, without forgetting use of the magic. Thing is that you might have hard time finding them, as FASA closed the business few years ago.
