The Truth about Publishing by Ian Irvine

Thanks for posting. I've read similar things, but that was one of the most accurate. Although I generally try to avoid reading stuff like that; because it tends to make me want to go into my 'important stuff drawer', pull out my book contracts and rip them into tiny pieces, letting them flutter to the floor where I will thereafter spit on them, stomp on them, light them on fire and then dance around them while I watch them burn, screaming 'WORTHLESS! YOU'RE WORTHLESS, I TELL YA, WORTHLESS!'

But I don't. Because I like writing. :D

That was a great article, PenDragon - thanks for linking to it. :)

I much like to see the apparent harsh realities of publishing, so fewer go forward unprepared.

I just started reading it. Boy, it is really chock full o' goodness and bitter pills. I bookmarked it. Thanks for the posting, PenDragon. :)

Heard that. Thanks for the post. If I expect the worst, then I won't be disappointed. I love writing, though, so I'll deal with that.

Yep that's a pretty fair indication of how the industry can be..

I've both met and corresponded with Ian over several years and he has a pretty level head on his shoulders.

Actually just as a bit of a plug he's my fav aussie fantasy author. If you like fast paced stories with lots of gadgets and engineering concepts but with some nice world building then you may like to check him out. The prose isn't anything great but the story and fast paced action helps make up for it.

Here's his website..

PS In case you're wondering he's not a relative or someone I get commision from, just someone who I believe deserves a look IMHO.. :D

I sent him a quick note after I read "The Truth About Publishing" and thanked him for the info. He wrote me back and said he'd checked out my site and stuff, and congratulated me on it and my book. I thought that was pretty nice. He seems like a real classy guy. :)

That he is and his books aren't too bad either...;)
