It seems that the comic area of Chronicles is dying a slow and painful death, so I though I'd try and kickstart it! To begin with:

Secret Invasion

This is the latest limited series event from MARVEL, once again spouting the tagline that this will change everything!

They've been doing them a lot recently, what with CIVIL WAR, PLANET HULK et al. And one of these things that comes across as annoying with these epics is the lack of continuity: For example WORLD WAR HULK saw huge tracts of New York destroyed and yet many comics did not even register it!

But I digress the latest epic, just begun is SECRET INVASION written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS with art by LEINIL FRANCIS YU. This one claims that it will explain much of what has gone on over the last few years in the MARVEL UNIVERSE, and that it is going to be full of unexpected surprises.

The main point this time, is that the shapechanging SKRULLS have been slowly infiltrating Earth, taking over positions of power, including many of the superheroes: indeed the main inference is that many of the heroes that have died and returned over the years may not actually be who they say (and even think) they are.

Already many reviews are infering that this is just another multipart crossover that will retrofit previous events and stories to suit the needs of this one. And it may well be the case over the course of years, with editors claiming that the invasion began as far back as the start of the MARVE UNIVERSE with FANTASTIC FOUR 2, but the modern planning and the bit that sets the series apart, is the shock that the hints have been there for a very long time.

When it is mentioned that Skrulls have been around doing things in issue X of NEW AVENGERS, it is easy to laugh it off and say whatever, I read that, there were no Skrulls in that issue. Until you actually look. Jaw drops, and hidden away in the background of one or two panels are indeed SKRULLS.

So for once it seems that a lot of planning has been involved and the questioons become, where are the SKRULLS? Has anyone spotted them iover the last four years? And just which od the superheroes are going to turn out to be the aliens?

Is it going to be that easy to ressurect CAPTAIN AMERICA? And will the revealed heroes mean that the originals are actually dead, because that would really change the MARVEL UNIVERSE....

I read several marvel comics, i care more about Annihilation Conquest than this invasion.

Im sick the neverending, world shattering events. Annihilation is the only event i have liked since i became a comic fan in 2005.

I think You are probably right Connavar, hitting the nail right on the head. When it seems like there is an endless stream of Earth shattering events they loose their flavour. It does not matter how good any individual event might be, or how well planned, it is just one after another.

On the other hand the Annihalation series is very much a self contained limited series with just a few tie ins and probably much more enjoyable for it. (Although we are now intoa sequel to the original Annihalation story, hopefully there won't be too many more!)

Thats why i enjoy Annhilation. Its contained in its own cosmic world and full of cool characters. Nova,Drax,Silver Surfer and co made me a cosmic fan of marvel.

I have stopped reading Spidey cause CW and the unmasking.

The only marvel comics i enjoy are those that are contained in another U like Punisher Max or like Captain America,Daredevil,Immortal Iron Fist three series dont mix too much with 616.

Tony Stark actually looks a decent and a man you can understand in Cap America unlike the fascist that was soo much villain like that ruined CW for me.
