BayCon 2008 in Santa Clara, CA is Memorial weekend if anyone lives in the vicinity. It's a great convention.

It has, in the past, been a great convention; the last two years have been disappointing. But this year sounds like it could be fun.

Well, I've got my hotel reservations for the weekend (have had for a couple of months already)...but my friend who was supposed to come along isn't going to be able to attend now. So, I'm kind of going back and forth about whether my mother and I will go ahead and go up for the weekend. It all kind of depends on how my mother is feeling.

I'm going to hold on to the reservations for awhile before I make up my mind. So, I might be there or I might not. *sigh*

Aside from that, I hope your mother will be feeling well enough. I've been in ill health since the beginning of the year myself, and I know how discouraging that can be.

That's one of the things I'm taking into consideration in making my decision, Teresa, aside from my mother's health. I would love the chance to finally meet you. After all, the two August 23 people around here should finally get to meet.

I don't talk about it much. Anemia is boring. (Even more boring when you're the one who is suffering from a severe case of it, but still ...)

Having the flu for three and a half months is a little more interesting, but not in ways that anyone wants to hear about.

My mother has been having some issues with anemia, as well, along with her other problems. She has not been happy with having to have so many blood tests. Especially when the lab techs seem to think that she is target practice and they end up not having very good aim.

Actually, that would probably be the most likely problem to interfere with attending BayCon, as it stands now. Her oncologist is actually encouraging me to keep her to as normal a schedule, including traveling, as possible. So, we'll see.

Hey gals. Guess you didn't come? Or did we miss each other? It was a blast. I posted pics on my blog: Science Fiction and Other ODDysseys.

I gave a copy of my book, Awesome Lavratt, to Tim Powers and he gave it back to me with a pen for me to sign it! How cool is that?

I was on panels with Walter Hunt, Tony Todaro and Deborah J. Ross.

Sat across the table from Kage Baker while she read and even sang (a sea chantey) from her new book.

I'm looking into more conventions. Maybe SpoCon.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Walter Hunt or Tony Todaro, but Deborah J. Ross is a delightful lady and (as I'm sure you noticed) an excellent panelist. What was the topic of the panel -- or panels -- you were on together?

The one with Walter Hunt was History vs. Historical Fiction. With Tony and Deborah (and YES! she's a great moderator, in fact. Refreshing change...)was naming your characters. I enjoyed it immensely.

Hello,

I'm not really new to the SciFi/Fantasy world but I am new to the conventions scene because to be honest I never knew they exsisted until a friend of mine told me about one in the D.C. area she went to and met with another buddy of mine who lives in that area.

I see there is one in the Bay area of California (I'm guessing). Are there any in or around Santa Barbara or is that area really not too popular for these conventions.

I'm curious cause I was thinking about checking one out when I get back to the real world later on in the year.
