Double-stuff Oreos!
Um. I hear you have to have a theory in order to post about here? I couldn't find any mention of this as far as I looked.
Considering the title of the series, Rhaegars reference to a song (Aegons song of I&F), The Raynes of Castamere and just Martins general deviousness, I was struck (with a hammer), whilst reading a Storm Of Swords, by the number of times The Bear and the Maiden Fair is sung/mentioned. Moonboy seems to like it. The Greatjon sings it. Some other people who I can't find sing it. It's quoted as one of Roberts more favoured tunes and so on and so forth. Thus whilst pondering the great mysteries of life and wondering if it was worth getting out of bed, I realised there is some prophesy of great significance hidden within these lines. However, I'm unsure as to what it is.
Heraldically (Hm?) the Pipers are the only house with a Maiden on their arms (someone else has the 'Mother' who by definition can't be a maiden (without wishing to insult anyones religous beliefs)) and this could well be a representation of the maiden mentioned in the Ballad. The only house to carry a bear appears to be the Mormonts, Jorah has recently been freed from Dany and could well be returning home and has, I believe, sisters and a mother(don't think she has benn killed...yet). There is no appearence of a goat in the heraldry (as far as i remember) excepting Vargo (?) Who is no longer. Which leads me to believe they may refer to people, maidens are rare but there must be a few and bears are somewhat dodgy.
I did wonder if the song was a foreshadowing of Dany's forgiveness of Ser Jorah after he returns and beguiles her with 'honey' whatever that might be...
Well, what I'm trying to get at is: does anyone have any ideas? The three lads mentioned in the song also could refer to almost anyone and who knows, perchance their role is a lesser one.
Perhaps Ser Marq will marry the little Bear who so neatly sticks two fingers up at Stannis?
Perhaps there is no significance and I should return to bed.
Cheers, Woody.
