Good news or not? One thing for sure, it won't be the same....

A new remake of sci-fi series Blake's 7 could soon return to television screens, Sky One has revealed.

The satellite channel has given the green light for the development of two 60-minute scripts for a "potential event series".

Hmm...

Blake's 7 was known for its shaky sets and basic special effects

...but wasn't that part of the charm of the original?

Oops...still, perhaps people might see this here whereas they might miss it there...:p

I hate to be a wet blanket on this one but all I can say is "Dont do it"

I loved Blakes 7, I have every episode on DVD and watch them over and over and over..................

It could never be the same without the original cast and they are just a little to old to reprise their roles. I couldn't even begin to picture anyone else as Roj Blake or Kerr Avon. The time is now past for Blake to make a comeback.
Lets just remember them how they were and leave it to our imaginations to wonder what happened after it all went so wrong on Gauda Prime!!!!!

i look forward to seeing what they do with. yes they probably will screw it up, but maybe just maybe they will actually pull it off and create something wonderful.

Indeed - Battlestar Galactica has worked out wonderfully, though the original, despite being a classic, was rather bad :)

I may be in the minority, but I was also rather pleased with the remake of Bionic Woman.

I'm a huge fan of the original Blake's 7, but I think if done well, a reimagined series could be great. A series where the main characters are essentially terrorists is a great premise, especially in todays climate.

Just for kicks, heres some ideas for casting - though like the posters above I really can't imagine anyone else playing Blake, Avon or Servalen.

Blake - Ciarán Hinds. Serious looking fellow, great in everything I've seen him in. Even the crappy Miami Vice.
Servelan - Ellen Page. She'll have the English accent down after playing Jane Eyre, and does the boyish looking but still sexy look very well.
Travis - Phillip Glenister. His reputation precedes him. And he looks good in 70's clothes.
Jenna - Hannah Tointon. She's cute and English.
Cally - Tamsin Egerton - see above.

Blakes 7 was I remmber reading somewhere was originaly proposed to be set in the same reality as Dr Who, I believe that the writer wanted the Daleks in it. While Dr Who has worked and the Prisoner might work, I am in 2 minds as to Blakes 7 working.

The thing that makes me think that it could work is Farscape, broadly similar plot set up with the addition of John Criton.

Why wouldnt it work, simply budget, to do it badly is easy, also how quickly would SKY lose interest in it if it dosnt pull in the viewers. Dr who worked because kids watch it and parents follow and keep watching giving a large potential audience. Blakes 7 is more like the revamped Battlestar Gallactica an adult show.

Will SKY have the patience to see this through? I wonder.

Hi all! newbie here aka NOMAD.
My father was stationed in the Netherlands during the time of Blake's 7 So naturally being one of the very few shows in english I was an avid watcher. I fell in love with the show of course. I have all the eppisodes up to the destruction of the Liberator. I guess I should order the last half of the show But it's so very tragic. I mean it did end rather badly. Perhaps the new one will correct that If they update the look. they could do worse than this.

Oh i don't know. I can see a Blake's 7 the movie! Come on surely it would be an improvement on the original. Look what they did to the (now laughable) Doctor Who. They brought it back to life and actually made it cool! Kids are talking about it at school again. Be good if they could do the same for Blake's 7. I loved the music in that show that's about it.(I liked the show way back when, but can't watch it now.)

Has Dr Who got a "reality"?

Look what they did to the (now laughable) Doctor Who.
Laughable? I remember the very dark first episode. Yes, there were some really bad episodes, but for a youing sci-fi fan it was magic, and life would be a far more boring place without it. How many of us were walking around like zombies until the new Dr Who started?

Oh yes, Blakes 7. Can anyone tell me how many episodes did Blake (himself) actually last?

Yea but as adults the original makes us laugh and today's kids wouldn.lt like it. But the new Doctor Who appeals to them. Us too,tho i do feel it takes itself too seriously and i can't take Daleks seriously! I mean an alien that is defeated by stairs ;)
