Throughout the series, we're introduced to many religions, most of them appear to be like the sort we have in reality, either they are fake, or the gods don't bother with the mortal affairs. And then we are introduced to Melisandre, her god, and his enemy. She can actually cast spells and all that fun stuff, so I came to the conclusion that R'hlor is a/the real god, and the Other is equil to the devil. However it occurs to me that she could just be a powerful sorceress making up this god stuff in order to get followers for her own means. But then where did the others come from? They obviously aren't organic animals, what are they?

What do you think?

What about the old god, the green dreams and the direwolves seem like interaction. Besides both the others and R'hlor seem devilish to me.

We don't know that the Seven aren't real. Just because their followers don't pray for supernatural miracles doesn't mean they don't have power. It could be that they only grant things like a good harvest or a successful childbirth; things that no one would ever notice are the acts of a god rather than just good fortune.

Well, ASOIF is certainly not Erikson's Malazan series, where Gods regularly play a huge role in the physical world where the action takes plan. GRRM takes a very different approach.
