Ok, so recently I brought some anime DVD's (FMA) and got a free anime magazine with them talking all about different animes and ones to watch out for. So I am simply wondering if anybody has seen any of these anime and can tell me if they are good/bad/horrible? and why/why not?
ok so the Anime are
-Samurai 7
-Samurai Gun
-Otogi Zoshi
-Vampire Hunter D.
-Full metal panic
-Burst Angel
-Gunslinger Girl
-Burn up scramble
-Tenjho Tenge

These ones all looked interesting and I would like any opinions on them so I know if they are worth trying.

Thanx for your input

Just know 3 of them:
-Samurai 7 : adapted from AKira Kuroawa's classic "7 Samurai". A pretty good anime where a samurai can fight and destroy giant mecha. IMHO, I rate this as above average.

-Full metal panic : military mecha anime. Also a pretty good anime. But the story itself is not surprising, you can guess the story/climax of most of the episodes.

-Tenjho Tenge : a fighting anime, with female warrior s with big boobs!!! :p IMHO, I rate this anime as average.

IMHO, all 3 of them has lower quality than FMA. Well, I am you and I must buy another anime from the list, I choose Samurai 7.

I think some of those have previews on the FMA DVDs, you can at least check out the art style. I've nothing to add about the quality of each. FMA set the bar pretty high. (I'd recommend Eureka 7 but it looks as though you're already a fan...;))

I would recommend Bleach, too, but it's got a lot of fighting, so if you don't like A LOT OF FIGHTING, then best skip it...

Lith, what is your favourite fighting anime/manga? Especially the recent ones.

For Bleach, I read the first 6 volume of Bleach manga, but I didn't find the story special. In which volume the story will become interesting?
Please don't get me wrong, I just want to know why the Bleach is popular and rated as a good anime. I tried until volume 6, but find nothing yet. So, pleaseee... enlighten me.

Yeah watched and loved it.:D

I tried bleach but when I got to the bount arc it just seemed to drop off for me so I stopped watching then.
And also I don't care how much fighting there is in an anime (Personally I love a good fight)

Also I anyone wants to make a suggestion not on the list too I wouldn't mind.

hmm 2 questions first ;)
What anime have you seen?
What anime that you have have seen have you liked?
The ones I have seen and like are
-Any Studio Ghibli movies (Thought I would throw that in there)
-The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
-Naruto
-Code Geass
-Gundam (Seed and Wing)
-Hellsing
-Elfen Lied
-Trinity Blood
-Black Cat
-Inuyasha
-Eureka 7
-Ghost in the Shell
-Full Metal Alchemist
(I'm quite partial to Mecha and Fighting animes but also enjoy a good comedy)
anime I have seen and thought were kinda average
-Bleach (When it hit the bount arc as I thought the first part was quite good)
-D. Gray man

Didn't like
-Air Gear
-Initial D.

I agree with you here - the bounto arc really did suck! However, if you liked the series before the bounto arc, it does get much better afterwards (in fact, from what I remember you probably wouldn't be missing too much if you were to skip most of the bounto arc!) :)

??
You MUST go out and see/get Cowboy Bebop!
there is a series and a film, though I would not watch the film until after at least the first 2 DVDs worth of the series and infact the film fist in closer to the end of the series (otherwise you just won't get the characters)
It has to be the best anime out -(ps if you liked Fire Fly you will certianly like bebop!)

After that I would recomend watching Wolf's Rain! Similar in that its a story driven anime to the rest of the ones you have listed - good story and good animation.

Is that that T.V. sci fi one cos if it is I never watched it

Overread, you like Cowboy Bebop so much, don't you? It is nice to have a fellow CB fans. :)

Reading_fanatic, based on your list, if I might boldly say that you have similar preference with me.

For now I try to give you my favorites (besides some of anime that you already listed:
1. for high-school comedy animes like Haruhi Suzumiya, I don't know any better than School Rumble or Azumanga Daioh. But both of them have no or minimal SFF themes.
2. fighting/action anime:I recommend Darker Than Black and Read or Die.
Have you seen Read or Die, the OVA series? Only 3 episodes. If you like it, you can try the TV series, which is the sequel.
For dark fantasy action, there is Blood, a 50 minutes movie with good animation. If you like it, you can try to watch the TV series sequel, Blood +.
3. for Mecha... I am lost. IMHO, you already watch some excellent mecha animes. Well, I cannot think anything else than Samurai 7 or Tengen Toppa Guren Lagann.

I also like to recommend some animes, that might be not your favorite fighting/anime/comedy themes, but if you want to try other themes:
1. Mushishi -- the story pace is a bit slow, but the drama stories of this anime are heart warming. The stories of this anime are not serial, so, if you don't like it, you can stop it at any episode.
2. Baccano! -- full of plot twisting. I watch 13 episodes of this anime in one night. I can't stop myself.:p If you can enjoy the confusing storytelling of Haruhi Suzumiya, you can try this anime as comparison.
3. Death Note -- mind bending dark fantasy thriller with anti-hero protagonist. Although there is magic, the main story is about deceptions and battles of logic between the main characters.

ooh that reminds me I saw Read or Die - the OVA one - good animation and intersting story

Death Note is one that I keep seeing being recomended and is one that I intend to investigate. In a similar line there is Gilgamesh (sp) which is supposed to be a dark and powerful story!

Awesome;)

I'll see if I can find these (It was only in the last couple of weeks that I tried something like Haruhi Suzumiya so it should be good to explore this genre more)
2. fighting/action anime:I recommend Darker Than Black and Read or Die.
Ok i'll have a look
Have you seen Read or Die, the OVA series?
No i've never even heard of it before this.
For dark fantasy action, there is Blood, a 50 minutes movie with good animation. If you like it, you can try to watch the TV series sequel, Blood +.
Oh more Irony lol:p(My movie deal was 5dvd's for ten dollars) the "extra" one i picked up to make 5 was .................. Blood.
3. for Mecha... I am lost. IMHO, you already watch some excellent mecha animes. Well, I cannot think anything else than Samurai 7 or Tengen Toppa Guren Lagann.
I might try the Samurai 7 one after Cb+WR

The first two look interesting and as for deathnote I have had alot of people tell me I should see it so mayb one day I'll give it a try as well.

Thanx for all the ideas guys and keep em coming :cool:

Please dont watch Death Note before reading the manga.

It will spoil the uber dark and awesome manga.

There are 1000 better similar animes who wont ruin a great manga.

Overread,
Please inform me more about Gilgamesh.

Connavar,
I agree that usually the manga version has the better story than the anime version. Fortunately, I read the DN manga first before watched the anime. ;)

Reading_fanatic,
just want to add some less exciting opinion:
Samurai 7 has a lot of mecha in it, but it is not about the protagonist riding a mecha. Actually, there is no protagonist in this anime that riding/control a mecha.

Got the Blood DVD just for NZ$2? I envy you.... He he he. Congrats!:D

Well, guys, enjoy your anime.

Unfortunatly I don't know much beyond what I said about Gilgamesh - not something I have watched. It has a dark theme to it and some interesting artwork - beyond that all I know is that is a serious story driven anime
