About 20 years ago, I read a book about three brothers on an alien world who in the course of the book marry three wives. All six of them are married to each other. The last wife is considered a heretic -- she doesn't believe in god -- even though information crystals are sometimes found that "prove" god's existence. It turns out that the god looking down on them is a satellite or space ship. The people on the planet aren't native to the planet and all the plant life is poisonous to them. Also, I think there's insect life on the planet but no other animals. That's all I remember.
