There are literally hundreds of characters to pick from, but which are your favourite?

My favourite characters are changeable with whichever book I read last. However, I have to pick out Erik Von Darkmoor and Roo Avery as they are 'real' people who become massive but always seem to reserve a level of normality.

Jimmy the Hand is I am sure most peoples favourite character, as he is so colourful and capable. Nakor is perhaps the most charasmatic of Feist's characters. I am also begining to like Callis more and more.

My favourite is probably Mara of the Acoma (The Empire series) but I also liked Arutha (now there's Ned Stark! :)) and Macros!
I also like Roo & Erik for the same reasons you do, but I prefer my fantasy grand & sweeping! It's nice to know what the scullery maids are thinking but I would have liked to see more of the high & mighty too! ;)

Too be honest I didn't like Jimmy the hand too much as he seemed impossibly good to me and was used as a plot device too much (a McGuffin as Hitchcock would say!). Whenever the heroes needed to be somewhere or get something, there was Jimmy to provide it - I'm being a bit harsh I know, but it just seemed a bit too contrived for me.

Talen was used to much the same effect in David Eddings Elenium series

Ah the Sparhawk tripe. Who was Talen again? Was he the thief who was the ******* son of Sparhawk's fat squire?

That's the fella - best thief in the world who wasn't interested in the accumulation of wealth and was basically a nice guy who just needed direction in his life.
I guess that's why they call it fiction! :)

I love cliches!

I just posted here but the post has mysteriously disappeared. I suspect that David Eddings is a moderator on this board. Anyway I basically said that Eddings is probably some christian nut who thinks that thieves and whores can be reformed. We all know that this is untrue. :)

Can you go past Tomas / Ashen? Amos Trask made me smile, as did Nakor, Macros was always a favourite, in fact - was there a character you didn't like? There'd be less of those for me.

I do not like Macros that much, nor his bitter daughter. There loads of characters that I don't like.

What's the problem with Macros? Next you'll be bad mouthing Gathis! And his daughter, what did she do to earn your displeasure? And who else is on your hit list?
You're a hard man to please Lace.

Gathis is a first class loser. What is his role? He did Macros' laundry, and now he does Pugs laundry.

Somebody has to do the laundry, and Gathis seems more than happy to do it... Let's not forget that he is the last of his species... But I'm sure he has other traits not mentioned...

My favourite characters include: Pug (always liked the underdog who made good), Talon of the Silver Hawk is also a good character, Arutha (moody, but intelligent), Nakor (slightly mad, and saying that magic is just a trick) and Jimmy/Duke James (was very well developed)...

Gathis is a little more complex than simply being the laundry dude.

Just read about Macros' demise, and have to say that he was fantastic in final moments. I loved the way he dove through the rift at the demon king, Maarg.

I have read all of Feist's books several times, and I'm hard-pressed to find a character I don't like. I like Kulgan and Father Tully. Pug. Tomas. The elves. Actually, I didn't really like Roland at first, but then after the drinking scene... Well, you kind of forgive him. Jimmy the Hand was much cooler for me when he got older. Nakor is probably my all-time favorite character. From the Empire series (which I lost the third book of, and I'm still kind of ticked off about that, so I haven't read it for a while) was the spymaster guy, just because of all of the intrigue.

I'd have to say that Feist's novels are some of my favorites. The only other ones that I enjoy reading as much are the Myst novels.

oh Calis without a doubt, every time i see his name i get an image of the night elf Demon Hunter from warcraft 3 :D

Hes just so cool... i liked almost everyone in the "desperate men" as they had such a broad variety of talents, backgrounds and character types, but Calis takes the cake. He just seems like an untapped well and you never really know what to expect because theres never been another human/elf/valheru.
I just find it awesome the way he goes into rages to save his men and nothing really seems to be able to stop him, and it seems worth more because rather than it being a power imbued upon him by an magical item or an ability to control the situation through magic, it's just flesh, blood, and the will to fight.

Calis is a difficult character to say whether I like him or not... There hasn't really been much of him... If he was developed more as a character, and there was more written about him, I might be a little more interested...

When I read the revised edition of Magician the character that appealed the most was Arutha. Being the easiest to relate to, having no great power, no great charisma, just being a rather awkward chap with a lot of responsibility.

I liked Jimmy (like many others), Pug, Nakor, Arutha (Borric's son), and Bobby de Loungville.

I did not really like Miranda.

The Best character has to be Milamber! He rules! I dont mean Pug though ebcause he gets really stupid!

But I still prefer Sparhawk to any of the characters in the Riftwar or serpent war
