3 months to go!

Am I the only one getting all geeked up and excited for this already?

Let's just say my expectations have been badly dented by Jar Jar & the terrible Trade Embargo!

I agree that this one looks the best of the 3 new ones but they still pale in comparison to the originals. Imagine these three new versions of your classics

Episode IV: A New Legislation
Episode V: The Appeals Committee Strike Back!
Episode VI: Return of the Bureaucracy!

I can't forgive him for killing off Darth Maul straight away! He's much better than Count Dooku (and I am a big Christopher Lee fan)

That's more of my opinion. I've just watch 25' of SW1, and then desperatly tried to erase my memory. The only other thing I've saw was the famous Yoda fight - and I prefer the Jim Hanson's work to the CGI recreation.
So, no, I'm not expecting it.

I couldn't agree more, with both of you. And THAT'S why I'm so pumped for this one. I mean, the way I see it, Lucas has GOT to know he needs to step up, seriously with this one. I was so dissapointed with the first one; and clones, while there were some redeeming moments, I got a bit of JarJar-Vu.

But it's still Star Wars. Like pizza. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.

I cannot wait. The other 2 weren't brilliant - in fact Clones was pretty vile, but cmon people - this is the beginning of Darth Vader's life. He's Luke and Leah's father, and the man that eventually kills his old mentor. Aren't you at least dribbling a little bit?

Don't get me wrong...I'll still go to see it in the first week it comes out! :)

If nothing else the thought of some characters "get their tickets punched" is appealing.
What price on Jar Jar getting a lightsaber headache? :D

seriously though, the big shame for me is that *allegedly* the whole return of Darth Vader thing has been completely over-egged. As I hear it, he'll be in it for 10 minutes max

so really, the movie I wanted to see was Star Wars Episode 3½ ;)

I won't go. I may catch it up on TV but I was so disgusted with the first one I won't give any more money to Lucas unless he can prove himself worthy of it.

The third prequel was *always* going to be the one to watch, precisely because it would have to tie in so closely with the original and best (IV-VI).

Even still, nowadays there's a case of it being the best of a bad job, rather than a great Star Wars film.

I am looking forward to it just to see what happens but the ither two are so flat that I wouldn't be bothered just waiting till its out on DVD, plus the character of Anakin Skywalker is so annoying!! I've really hated him in both films so far

Okay, I didn't think AotC was all that bad. It's a lot better than PM at any rate. The thing I am MOST looking forward to (in a depressing kind of way) is seeing the fall of the Jedi. I mean, we all know the only ones left in Ep IV are Darth Sidius, Darth Vader, Master Yoda and Master Obi-Wan. It's going to be interesting to see how the whole Jedi fall to just two men. I'm quite looking forward to it!

What I keep expecting from this film (and what I probably won't get) is the birth of the twins and how Vader manages to know he's got a son but not a daughter... And it will be full of tragic events. Will make my life look like the best there is! j/k :D

No, sorry. When it's bad, it's atrocious. I was a huge Star Wars fan, and I still love the original trilogy (though I don't think I've watched any of them in full since Lucas unnecessarily tweaked them - they were on TV here the past couple of weekends, and I got as far in A New Hope as Greedo shooting first - and missing from two feet - before I switched channels) but the first two prequels weren't just bad films, they were two of the worst films in cinema history. To have such potential in his hands and to produce badly scripted, poorly acted, sub-par SF trash - the words abandon me. To be a couple of decent writers and a director who knew what the hell he was doing away from being a landmark cinema event in the order of LotR - it's just heartbreaking. Why couldn't Lucas have sat on his ranch and helped his boffins animate twin-bladed lightsabers and perfected the sound a Jedi Starfighter engine makes, and left the important stuff to people with talent? I'm sure they still would have backed up the dumptrucks full of money to the front gates - probably even more, if it had been executed to appeal to everyone, not only near-sighted Star Wars tragics...

Still, I'll be there opening night. Lucas can have my fifteen bucks. I need closure. Just to see how bad it is, and then try and shunt my grief aside, and get on with the rest of my life.

You're of course assuming that Lucas doesn't just "re-write" his own origins

My favourite gem from Episode IV is Obi-Wan saying "When I first met your father, he was already a great pilot"

Is this the same 7 yr old who never finished a pod race and then fluked a fight against droids with the same accuracy as your Imperial Storm-trooper?

When he first met Anakin Skywalker he was a whinging slave on a backwater planet who was a serial race loser!!

And don't even get me started on 'Midichlorians'

Yes. Midichlorians indeed.

I'm not sure if anyone has dipped their toe in the extended universe of the novels - I'm guessing more than one or two have - but the thing which annoyed me the most was that Lucas gave his tacit approval for these novelists (and comic book artists, and so on) to create a fully realised and logical back-story to the original trilogy, and then not only ignored their creative (and more accomplished) work but in most cases fully contradicted it. With Naboo. And Jar Jar. And the Trade Federation. And pod racers. And seven-year olds who couldn't act their way out of a tin can.

I was kind of hoping a different actor would be playing Annakin in this new one; speaking of actors that can't act their way out of a tin can. No such luck.

I don't know - in this movie all he has to do is act moody and pissed off

All ol' Hayden has to do is read his reviews from Attack of the Clones....

Now THAT's method acting!! :D

Oh come on. You can't compare the two. Luke was going to turn into his own goodie two shoes self at any rate. The pre-Vader character needed more depth than that, in my opinion.

I wouldn't normally criticise the original acting - excepting that Luke being fried by the Emperor's lightning is so awful. Luke acts more like he's got bad wind than dying from an overwhelming evil power. :)
