If you met GRRM...

Too many questions going through my head right now... I'd say I'd probably ask him if any of his characters our of the lesser ones were modeled after knights or characters from Breton Lays, things like that. I'd also ask him what his all time favorite book is, maybe what his childhood was like, and can I buy him a pint?

I would ask him if he preferred writing Sci-fi or Fantasy. I would also ask him what his long term writing plans were.

I would ask him, after the pretext of saying I appreciated his pre-study in writing ASoIaF, if he would ever consider writing a historical fiction.

I would ask if, after completing the ASOIAF series, he would consider writing a Dunk and Egg novel or two. Or perhaps anything else related to the history of Westeros.

I DID ask him :D
What his historic influences were for the Red Wedding and some of the other important points in the novels, which characterhe has the most fun with while he's writing, and how he was enjoying his stay in Croatia

If? IF?

Folks, you can meet the man himself - at Interaction this summer in Glasgow. The Brotherhood without Banners, George's fan club, (which I suspect some of you know about) will be holding a party there at which George and Parris will be guests of honour, as they are every year: and there will also be a lunch with George and some other events, if all goes to plan.

How do I know? I'm one of the mooks who's organising it. ;)

Though I've only just registered here, I'm one of the mods on the ASOIAF ezboard, which I'm sure many of you are also members of. (Over there, I'm known as mormont.)

So, if you're dying to ask George something, or just would like to meet him, get yourself along to Glasgow. (You won't need a membership for Interaction to attend any of the BwB events, by the way.)

I'm so jealous!!! Someone sneak me into their luggage.;)

Welcome to our forum Raven.:) I visit over to the ASoIaF ezboards as much as I can, but I don't post much over there. It is usually fun reading everyone else's post though.:D

Hi Raven, and welcome to the chronicles network. :)

As for meeting GRRM - I'd hope not to know who he was at first, so I could lay out my criticisms of ASoFaI, and have an interesting discussion about it that way. If I knew who he was first, I might to be too concerned about hurting his feelings. :)

The chronicles network has got a table at Worldcon this year - I'll keep an eye out for the Brotherhood without Banners. :)

Ah Brian, I am going to Rome instead.... What were the dates again??? It is not too late to cancel Rome. :)

I think I am going to Paris in autumn, but I would prefer to go to Barcelona or Madrid. The flights cost about £20.00 Aryaunderfoot. Cheap as chips. :)

I'd try to beat that with telling you I'm heading to New York in March and Costa Rica in October, but they just don't sound as cool.

Far cooler mate. I was in the Dominican Republic last year in a five star hotel. I wish that I could do that every year.

If I met him I would thank him for saving the fantasy genre for me. After a few bad reads back in late '90's I had pretty much decided to leave the fantasy genre for good. Then a nice bookstore owner recommended A Game of Thrones. The rest, as they say, is history...

I ask how good his health is, and tell him please do not die yet otherwise I'll be left hanging

His health is perfectly fine (hell, he can party me under the table) and I'm pretty sure he doesn't plan on dying for another twenty years at least. ;)

Before I read this thread I was wonder who Raven was and now I know. Again, what a small place the internet is ;)

The questions I'd ask would be pretty nerdy (funnily enough, I started a similar thread on the Westeros board itself a while back):

1) What are the house mottos of the Freys and Boltons?

2) How did Aegon I convince the Arryns to join the Seven Kingdoms: conquest or diplomacy?

3) Why did the Faith turn so violently against Aenys when they'd given Aegon I their wholehearted support?

4) Were there three Targaryen Valyrian swords or just the two that have been named (Dark Sister and Blackfyre)?

5) Have the seasons always been out-of-whack or were they once 'normal' (similar to the real world's), perhaps before the Long Night?
