No, now there's no more Concorde you can get through six full length novels on the return transatlantic trip - costs more than the ticket.
I actually got the E-mail with that information as I was reading your post (I don't know why they think I might fly across stateside, either; they're supposed to be trying to sell me books)
I suppose if it's a thread, I might as well give all the information; there might be someone in Chicago who wants to know…

Is that typical for a book signing in the USA? All round the edges (not even; nothing in the south central/south east) and the interior a desert?

Sadly it is typical. Sometimes I think that if not for Minneapolis and Chicago the midwest would never be on the tour route. :( The last major sci-fi/fantasy author that I know of coming within a three hour drive from where I live was Tad Williams. It was different years ago when a sci-fi convention called Gen-Con was hosted in Milwaukee, but I think they hold it in Ohio now.

I met Naomi last year at Worldcon and found her very approachable. Happy to sign an autograph or share in a photo.

Those of us who live in the "middle part" believe with some justification that this is a function of population (you go where the most people are) and not just a little bit of snobbery. "They're really backward out there you know."
