Have anyone any idea what the overall plot is? I wondered if it had something to do with the K'Chain Che'Malle. In a sidenote somewhere it was said that they knew they were going to go extinct and as a response they decided to extent the favour to every other living thing, ie kill off everything. The Red Mask incident in the lates book which seems like an odd addition and might have something to do with this? Perhaps aiding in the destruction of this empire?

The Imass also gathered in this area(east if the fallen empire) right? Seems to me the three major elder races are gathering for a showdown. Well, maybe not the Jaghut except in the form of Ircarium...although he might be enough if he develop into a proper tyrant.

Btw, this was the worst part of Reaper's Gale for me. Icarium and Karsa Orlong show up early in the book and everybody must have expected some monumental battle, except it never takes place. I kept waiting throughout the whole book for something to happen and nothing ever did. It made it very hard to enjoy the otherwise decent book. Imo, Icarium and Karsa shouldn't have arrived until the last quarter of the book.

The K'Chain Che'Malle seem to be the ultimate adversaries behind the endgame of the series. I think the last two books are supposed to deal with them and also the Crippled God. I think the CG will turn out to be the mastermind behind a lot of what's going on, and the KCCM are his latest pawns. The problem with the KCCM being the main bad guys is that they don't really play a large role in the earlier books. Undead mutant varieties appear in MoI and we get oblique references to them in other books, but otherwise there's not much info on them, whilst the CG has been an active force since Book 3 and would be a more satisfying ultimate enemy.

The Imass don't want anything other than to die. However, they have one very large loose end to take care of, namely the force that is wiping out their brethren on the continent of Assail. Erikson isn't dealing with this story, so we're going to have to wait for Esselmont's fourth novel before we find out what's going on there.

I think the CG and KCCM are going to be the two big enemies by the end (and I love that fact that it's still not clear, even now:D) but they're equally likely to be fighting each other as anyone else, so I wouldn't be too sure... and of course the CG has his fingers in more than one pie, as it were...
