What is VALIS?

I mean the book itself, I know what VALIS is supposed to be. (or maybe not)

Really, every time I read this book I see new things, and yet each time I understand it less. Can anyone help?

I understand it's very connected to LOST, that's why I'm rereading it now
 
It's been a long time since I've read it. but, as with much of Dick's work, it is purported to be highly autobiographical. For a little different take on the piece, you might seek out a CD of the opera of the same name by Tod Machover. Evocative to say the least.
