During his recent signing tour, Steven Erikson confirmed that he has signed up for 6 more Malazan novels for Bantam. They will not be direct continuations of the Malazan Book of the Fallen, but will be two somewhat self-contained trilogies, one of which will be the backstory of Anomander Rake. He also confirmed that the two new trilogies will be released at a more leisurely pace than the MBF, as the one-book-per-year pace is too much to keep up indefinitely.

He also confirmed that there are 6 more Bauchelain and Korbal Broach novellas to come, to bring the total to 9.

Added in with the 10 volumes of the MBF itself and Esslemont's planned 6 novels, that brings the total to 22 novels, 9 novellas and 1 companion volume set in this world.

he'll be around for a while then.....

it's all good news, it seems. having the novellas available in a mass market edition would be good though.

Well as I've been dropping further and further behind on my reading and the Steven Erikson books are creeping further and further ahead, I'm pleased for two reasons. Glad that there are going to be more books set in the same universe, especially as they are moving away from the Books of the Fallen...

Even better he's slowing down the speed that he's writing them giving me more of a chance to catch up!

Woop! I'd love to know more about Rake, particularly after the latest revelations. And I'm intrigued as to what the second trilogy will be about.

Something that was mentioned in the thread you've linked to (and a thread that that one linked to) is that Book will have a cliffhanger ending - 1000 pages of buildup, and Book 10 will be 1000 pages of conclusion. Wow!! I don't know about anyone else, but some of the conclusions to Erikson books leave me really drained (but in a good way). DHG, for example. MoI is another one. BH, too. A full book like that will be... amazing.

cool I look forward to catching up on this series after GotM, just few more books to read then I will be blitzing Erikson :D

Yeah, when he revealed this at the Manchester signing, there was much shocked gasps and muttering. It was quite fun really :D

I was also there at the manchester signing when Erikson announced this...myself with a big grin on my face.

Can't wait to see where the new books will take us!

That's great news. By then I should have worked out who is who, who's fighting who and who they used to be :p:D
