today I was given a book entitled "a darkness at sethanon" by a friend after mentioning the author to her. i'd never heard of him before coming to this forum. I deliberatly am avoiding the other threads in this forum as I don't want to bump into any spoilers.

my question is: should I start with this one? or would it be better to go out and buy a different one?

NO spoiling it in any replys please!
I don't want to know anything except which book to start with. this is a sort of ritual with new authors and me.

Not the best place to start - a bit like starting Lord of the Rings with The Return of the King...:p

List of Raymond Feist's Midkemia/Kelewan books, in chronological order:

The World of Midkemia

Note, though, the two parts of Magician are often published in one volume: but as long as you don't mind a bit of time-hopping, you can read the whole thing at once.

Definitely read Magician first. You'll get semi-lost in Darkness (sorry for the pun!) otherwise....

Aye, start off with Magician. It's the perfect introduction to Feist's worlds and you really need to read that one in order to get a feeling for what's going on.

I made the mistake of reading the Serpentwar first and then going straight to Flight of the Nighthawks, a book which comes after three other books. Didn't understand who half the characters were!

you lucky lucky man/woman! you've got the riftwar, serpentwar and empire trilogies all to look forward to. i've just finished the riftwar and am currently reading the serpentwar for the 4th time. nothing beats the first read though!
