.. . if dear mr. Martin passes away before?
it's an ugly question but realistic.
Mr. Martin writes slowly books from series because he is probably full of it and rather goes to Cons...which I understand ... but who is good enough to take his position if he one day would not be able to write any more...
another writer? crazy fun?

Ever heard of...dammit mental blank. It will come to me...Its not WoT...um...Its a series that has something like 13 books in it and was only about half way when the auther died. Many annoyed fans.

So it was Wheel of Time. I thought there was another one...Oh well...

No-one. GRRM has been asked this and he said if he falls under a bus we're all, "S**t out of luck."

To be honest, that's how I would answer a question like that even if I did have plans for another author to finish my work if I died. It's a very rude and selfish question.

I'd rather be flayed by a Bolton than have someone else try to continue the series.

And this line of inquiry is in poor taste at best.

Yes. Yes it is. The question should only be asked IF he dies. The only reason it is being bandied about is that Robert Jordan died with his magnum opus incomplete. Now, everyone is worried about huge epic series being finished.

My response to that question, were I GRRM, would be "[insert expletive here] off!", which is kind of what he said already. I would, obviously, be a little less subtle than he was, though.

He'll be fine. And if he isn't, we'll be. They're just books and he's a human being worth more than books. I'd have cursed a little more if I were him.
