Help! I'm stuck in the forums!
Has anyone read this book by John Myers Myers? I read it a long, long time ago and was completely captivated by trying to puzzle out all the references. Someone just reminded me of it (although I can't recall how since I only discuss books here as all my other friends are functionally illiterate - they know how to read but don't; just don't understand that  ) and now I feel I should try and track down a copy.

Yes and like James Branch Cabell's Jurgen this wonderful Comic Fantasy Novel is classic that should be celebrated. (y):)

From the descriptions of Jurgen it sounds a bit more focused on sexual/romantic exploits than adventure. Am I reading it wrong?

I'd say yes, Jurgen does concentrate on his romantic adventures, though they are of a fantastic nature -- that is, the basic nature of them is of a sexual/romantic nature, but there are larger issues of which these are a constituent part, and in looking at it through this lens, Cabell is addressing several aspects of what it means to be human, to face our own mortality, and to test our own self-honesty, courage, and loyalty. His characters tend to be more of a Romantic temperament rather than a skeptical or strictly secularist one, but he deals through fantasy with very fundamental human issues. So, while Jurgen is indeed a comic novel in many ways (actually more so than several of his other "ironic comedies"), there are some very stark passages to it nonetheless, even a few of genuine terror and pity.
