Was watching the new DVD again last night for the nth time and I started to wonder exactly why Deckard was sent to the Tyrrel building to put "the machine" on a Nexus 6. During the meeting with Byrant we saw that Roy, Zora and Priss's identity was known by mugshot's and Leon's from his attack on Holden so what use would being able to test for a Nexus 6 be? Just an excuse to get Rachael and Deckard to meet maybe?

Watching it with that in mind Byrants comments about Rachael going AWOL and now being a target after Deckard has killed Zora do
have a more knowing ring to them, as if he knows she's seen him since the test as Gaff clearly does latter in the film.

If you accept that Deckard's a replicant aswell then perhaps some kind of experiment by the Tyrell corperation was taking place bringing together two with memory implants and seeing what would happen?

I think this movie is brilliant, but I don't think it put that much thought into their first meeting. I think the filmmakers just had to have a reason for them to meet, so yeah, I vote that it's "just an excuse."

But that meeting didn't ring untrue to me in any way. That guy was showing off; he was showing off Rachel and the entire Nexus 6 line. He was proud that he was creating better replicants and of course he would be interested to see what would happen when a professional blade runner tested her.

I thought he was sent there to interview a Nexus 6 as she was the only tame one they had for him to test. - So he would know what he was up against

Still I could be wrong

Yeah, what he ^ said.

I guess I should mark the following as SPOILERS:

But I just thought of another question. The guy at the Tyrell Building (can't remember his name)... does HE know Deckard is a replicant? I mean, he'd have to know, right? And yet another question... how does Edward James Olmos know?

END SPOILERS. And end post.

I thought he knew because he was actually the blade runner given the job of hunting them down using Deckard as a weapon against them.

The guy at the Tyrell building would be, funnily enough, Dr Eldon Tyrell.
If Deckard was a replicant, he probably would have know - replicants with memories appeared to be his pet project, and to set up Rachael and Deckard would have needed his help

The original escaped Nexus 6 models did not have memories, Rachel, and Deckard were ones who did. I'm thinking that Tyrell and company wondered if they hadn't made their replicants too human to detect. So they tested it on Rachel. if she couldn't be detected, they would have her and Deckard in the same room feet from each other. Instant retirement, and nobody the wiser.

I missed that detail. How do we know Roy et al did not have memories? If they didn't then why was Leon so hung up about retrieving his photographs? Or did I just answer my own question, i.e. the photographs represented memories to Leon?

Struggling through my own memories - does not Tyrell say to Deckard after the test takes a lot longer than it should, that Rachael is something different - she has implanted memories based on his niece; indicating that the process is something new.

Roy and Co then probably wouldn't have memories... (or is Tyrell playing Misdirection)

Maybe Deckard had Gaff's memories implanted? Which explains why he thought he was a Bladerunner if in fact he was a replicant?

Whilst Tyrell says that, we also are lead to believe she was actually one of the original six who escaped the off world colony.

Personally, I think we seek to much meaning in plot holes.

From my take, thats exactly what took place. Eldon Tyrell even explained to Deckard the purpose of implanted memories for easier control of Replicants, and how its an experiment with implanted memories, Tyrell must of created Rachel to help Deckard cope with his "human" memories and experiences including sex, thus to make Deckard easier to control. Deckard is likely a Nexus 6 gen replicant as well, but unlike other Nexus 6's, Deckard and Rachel both are "gifted" memories to help them cope with their emotions. Remember every other Nexus 6 replicant were in love with each other... Leon/Zhora, Roy/Pris, then Deckard/Rachel. Tyrell recognized this and that is the purpose of his experiment which are Deckard/Rachel.

Tyrell also explained that the implanted memories help replicants deal with the lack of experiences that the average human stores up over the course of their lifetime. Roy and Co do have memories, but only that of the experiences that they've personally been involved with, no fake memories like Deckard or Rachel... just the apparent cruelty of suffrage under humans. Though Roy and Co's stored up memories of their experiences in their short lifespan pale in comparison to that of a human or Deckard/Rachel even if theirs is fake. The creators of replicants didn't design replicants to have emotional responses but to be machines designed to copy and mimic human behavior, though replicants eventually developed their own emotions to the surprise of their creators... which is why the newer generations of Nexus have shorter lifespans since the creators can't stop the replicants from developing their own emotional responses. JF Sebastian tells Roy and Pris that there are seven or several million (forget which) of Nexus 6's, theres no telling how many earlier generations of Nexus's with longer lifespans there are in the offworld colonies, which opens the door to an Animatrix type prequel/sequel/trilogy where one of the off world colonies has been taken over by the earlier generations of Nexus w/ longer lifespans and then those Replicants would just advance their genetic code or technology at a tremendous rate as to create an advanced form of replicants that would have longer lifespans or immortal compared to the earlier generations of Nexus replicants that created them, and possibly take over the human colonies and Earth, wiping the human race out or not in the war of the worlds. Maybe replicants would save Earth and humanity from other replicants, causing humans to change the way they see replicants as, viewing them as equals and just as deserving of life and the same rights as humans believe that humans are entitled to.

Do you think Dekard was attracted to Rachel becaus she was a replicant?

We are naturally drawn to likes. Perhaps on a subconscious level Dekard picked up on this and that was the basis for their attraction.

First of all Holden takes the test to leon inside the Tyrel corporation thou Bryant said to Decard that two of them were fried when they try to go in meaning that they couldn't and Roy said to Tyrel that it was hard to meet his maker and thats why he need JF to go in. Second Rachel is a new Nexus 6 model with memories (tyrel said that to Decard after the test) and she didn't even know she was replicant.
Third if they know that is a Nexus 6 in Tyrel what the test is gonna prove exactly? Cause if Tyrel didn't want to play that game with Rachel probably was gonna show to Decard the Nexus 6 so they didn't need the test from the first place.
Then I thought that maybe Decard was sent there to see if the Tyrel Nexus 6 knew anything about the other 4.
