Out of Chaos...
Though I suspect some posts are best forgotten, and perhaps this is like one of those clean slate moments when you have a chance to say things again.
For instance, I am selling copies of Dragon's Tongue between now and November 15th for a mere $10.00 plus $2.50 postage and handling (US--British and other Worldly Fans must email me because overseas postage will be Much More). Why? Well, firstly, to move stock since I have quite a few boxes in the diningroom (and even more in storage) taking up space and annoying the rest of my family.
Secondly, because I have a campaign in the works to get Wandering Lark into print that involves asking people for names and addresses and email addresses, and asking them to committ to paying about $12.50 up front to help get Wandering Lark into print and it occurred to me that there might be people who had not read Dragon's Tongue, so here is the opportunity to get a copy and see what it's all about.
Or one can still go to my Lulu store (Laura J. Underwood's Storefront - Lulu.com) and download a copy of And Then What Happened, wherein one can read the first three chapters of Dragon's Tongue for free...along with several other delightful works of mine.
At any rate, also gone is the fact that Five Star/Gale/Cengage dropped my novel Angels of Mercy from the 2009 list because they decided to kill their SF line earlier than originally planned. Carnifex is closing its doors and my novella The King's Wind will cease to be available after Jauary 2009, but of course, not to worry, as I will soon have copies in hand to sell, and at any rate, in the works is another tale of Rhys the reluctant Mageborn, and I started thinking that I could combine the stories out there thus far (including the first one "The Gift," which appeared in Sharon Lee and Steve Miller's anthology Low Port) into a single collection.
On the plus side, I received contracts for my story "Quiet Neighborhood" slated to appear in The Book of Tentacles from Sam's Dot Publishing, and I received payment for my short story "Moonsong and Shadow" slated to appear in an anthology titled Wolf Songs (due out sometime next year as is the afore mentioned Book of Tentacles). And I have just learned that a small press is picking up a Harper Mage novella titled The City Under The Bridge (more details as they are forthcoming, but I think it will be both a trade and an electronic book), and it should be coming out some time next year as well.
I went out today and exercised my right to vote early.
Oh, and because October was the Month of Three Checks (as in I have a paycheck to waste), I went looking for a new cheap laptop (Toby here is starting to crack and show his age), and came home with an even cheaper device instead...
A new ASUS Eee PC 1000HD which might as well be a smaller laptop--has a nice sized screen and keyboard compare to The Black Pearl (which is a 701), and a giant hard drive (for me--Toby has 40 gig--BiggiEEE as I have named the newcomer, has 120 gig HD) as since I found an external portable Sony DVD/CD reader/writer on sale, BiggiEEE pretty well can replace Toby--except that BiggiEEE is wireless, and I still have not gotten around to upgrading the internet connection I have beyond the present dialup service because I am cheap and can get Free Wireless at one of my library branches if I should need it.
I am such a sucker for a pretty new geek toy...
But for under $400 USD, not a bad deal...
