Just randomly thinking and decided to post this. Was it really Cersei who sent Ser Mandon or was it someone else who wished to cause strife/suspicion in House Lannister or perhaps have Tyrion removed. Littlefinger perhaps? Varys? We know little of Ser Mandon except that he was from the Vale. The very place that Lyssa and Petyr have influence.

Just curious to see if there are any other theories.

He was Tyrion's bodyguard during the battle of the Blackwater. When Trion was on the bridge of ships Ser Mandon told Tyrion to take his hand and just when he was reaching over to accept it, Ser Mandon slashed at Tyrions face trying to kill him. He only took part of Tyrions nose due to the fact that the dwarf moved away at the last second. He would have finished the job had it not been for Pod coming up from behind him and pushing him over the railing, drowning him.

In the following Tyrion chapters Tyrion is trying to find proof that it was his sister who gave Ser Mandon his orders.

Me too for the most part, but last night it just popped into my brain that maybe it wasn't?? Varys made a sly comment about how Ser Mandon died "protecting" Tyrions life or something to that account followed by a sly smile as if he knew. Now that could mean he heard Cersei tell Ser Mandon or perhaps another person.

LF if anyone besides Cersei would be my next suspect.

I think the short answer is, if Littlefinger is on a list of suspects he's probably guilty. The real quesation though is, who had the most to gain with Tyrion being dead, OR, WHO WANTED HIM DEAD TGHE MOST?

The Tyrells and Olenna is another possibility as Tyrion was Hand at that point and they wanted him out of the way. Olenna and Mace also galdly pinned Joff's assasination on Tyrion, which came after the failed attempt to kill him. My guess is that Tyrion was just another Lannister in the Tyrell's way on their rise to a place of prominence. And Olenna recognized him as the smartest one of the bunch so a real threat unlike Tywin who was busy at the time fighting Robb.

Disagree Super T.

Tywin, while of a different personality than Tyrion, was his political match in every way, and far more established.

If the Tyrells were going to cut the head off of the machine that is the Lannisters, you hit Tywin regardless of what he's doing at the moment. Tyrion hadn't even been recognized by his own family, nor the other royals, as being that important. Yes, he was hand, but only in the absence of Tywin.

Tywin had no choice in making him Hand either, he was clear about his views of women in politics, a la Cersei, and his other son was...well, too many issues, and he probably knew Jaime would deny the post by virtue of his past decisions.

Tyrion hadn't really displayed that level of strategic acquity until that battle.

He was an unknown, while Tywin was a very well known commodity, as was Cersei.

If the Tyrells were going to target a Lannister, it would either have been Tywin or Cersei.

It had to be Cersei that put the hit out for Tyrion.

This is a very, very inaccurate quote from The Usual Suspects, but it goes something like this:

"With cops, if they think the boyfriend killed the girlfriend, 99 percent of the time they're right.".

Listen fool!!! Oh, sorry you are calling me Super T and not Mr. T.

Well, you are right but the counter arguement was that Robb was beating Tywin in the field and promised to keep him busy for some time. Now, they never saw the Red Wedding coming. Nobody did.

Why would they have targeted Cersei? I think Olenna and Littlefinger knew she would f**k things up royally. They also knew that Tywin would take Cersei's side in any dispute with her Imp brother. They all knew Tywin despised Tyrion and only used him for his own advancement. Could they have predicted that Tyrion would kill Tywin? Not at first but I think they saw an opportunity after Tyrion's star had fallen in King's Landing to get rid of the other big threat being Tywin. That is why, working with Varys, they put the crossbow in Tyrion's hand. That is almost as bad as giving him a clear diagram as to what needed to be done with the crossbow.

The plot involving Olenna, Littlefinger and Varys will eventually be revealed and one wonders if someone like Dany with the help of Doran/Quentyn, Tyrion and others like Victarion will put an end to it.

They are centainly playing a very dangerous version of the Game of Thrones and the Tyrells could be ruined because of it. By either Dany or the Lannisters.

I PITY THE FOO' WHO DISAGREES WITH ME!!!

But most of what you're referring to happens way after Tyrion's chain and the Battle of Blackwater, it doesn't have much relevance to the original question of who sent Mandon to kill the Imp.

How could the Tyrells have sent Ser Merdon to kill Tyrion only joined the Lannisters during that battle? Why Ser Merdon?

Reasons Cersei wanted Tyrion dead:
1. She always despised and hated him.
2. She makes decisions based upon emotion.
3. She'd threatened him before.
4. He held Tommen.
5. He sent Myrella away.
6. He shamed her ally on the Council, Pycelle.
7. He was unable to free Jaime.
8. He poisoned her.
9. He turned her catspaw, Lancel, into his own.
10. He threatened Joffrey.

Reasons why Littlefinger wanted Tyrion dead:
1. He lives for double-crossing people.
2. He'd already framed Tyrion for Bran's situation which resulted in Tyrion's abduction and near death at the hands of the Tully sisters.
3. He knew that Tyrion knew that he'd framed Tyrion.
4. He was in the habit of killing Hands.
5. If Baelish wants to be King, then the Lannisters must all die... Tyrion is a better planner and thinker than Cersei.

Reasons Olenna wanted Tyrion dead:
1. It was Tyrion's idea to get the Lions and Roses into bed together, yet at the same time Tyrion removed Tommen and Myrcella from their clutches. This keeps the Tyrells subservient.
2. Sansa can bring Winterfell to Willas.
3. Cersei makes emotional decisions... Kill Tyrion and Cersei will immediately send for Myrcella and Tommen, thus putting them into the hands of the Tyrells.
4. Mace could replace Tyrion as Hand.

Who had ties to Ser Mandon Moore?
1. Baelish and Moore are both from The Vale. Both came to KL under Jon Arryn's patronage. Littlefinger enlists/purchases/uses everybody and anybody he can.
2. Cersei was Queen the entire time Moore was in the Kingsguard.
3. Varys is the most well connected person in Westeros.
4. Lysa still harbored malice towards Tyrion... and Moore was from The Vale.

Or... what if Ser Mandon happened to be a cousin to Ser Vardis? He might just blame Tyrion and decide to get vengeance on his own.

Ser Mandon was not the kind of man to do things on his own initiative, at least not the assassination of the Hand.

I would say he was acting on the orders of Baelish, simply because Cersei would want Tyrion to know that she was the one who orchestrated his death.

I believe it was Littlefinger. We can argue all day about who has more motivations and connections, but the facts are Mandon is from the Vale where Petyr's influence was tantamount via Lysa and most importantly IMO - what else was Littlefinger doing during the Blackwater battle? True enough, he was out securing Lysa and the Vale, but is it really in his character to neglect something as major as that battle by not making some kind of move on his enemies? And who are his enemies - everyone really, but mostly those who pose the greatest threats. Jon Arryn and Ned Stark both died within months of sniffing around the same trees that Tyrion put his nose too, which is why he ending up getting that nose chopped off

PK, don't forget that while he was "away" he was actually still in Kings Landing on that ship out in the bay making plans to poison Joff and steal Sansa.

Yeah, that's right. I think I'm getting my time frame mixed up with Blackwater and Sansa's escape. But I do think Littlefinger went further away. He was gone for a while, securing his place in the Vale. And its certainly not out of character for him to tackle multiple obstacles at once.

Here's an idea no one thought - maybe it was Tywin who sent Moore? It doesn't seem very likely, tho. Tywin was too smart to eliminate Tyrion when Cersie was still Regent and while he himself was still away at war . . . Oh, let's face it, everybody but Jon, Sansa, and Jaime wants to off The Imp. Maybe Mandon was just a dwarfaphobe

Baelish was sent by Tyrion to enlist the Tyrells. Presumably he was with the Tyrell horde, led by Renly's ghost, attacking Stannis' unprotected rear.

Ok, so if you would indulge me . . . was it Tywin wearing Renly's armor? Beacuse if so then Baelish was with Tywin for some time preceding the events @ KL after Tywin returned. Any number of conspiracies could have been underfoot . . .

It was Garlan. LF suggested that it would scare Stannis's ignorant Men at Arma and a few Lordlings as well. Renly's armor was too loose on Loras, but fit garlan well enough. Loras spills the beans to Jaime in AFFC.
