Well I have just finished RoaDK, and thought it was Feist best, equalling aDaS and Magician. The siege of Krondor was a dissappontment, you didn't really get to see any of the fighting, but the siege of Darkmoor made up for it. The fight with the Demon at the end was kind of non-epic (if you know what I mean). Tomas was great as usual:D, the sad bit in the book for me was not when James died, it was when Nicholas died, it was just so unexpected, an I liked him better than Original Arutha, Borric and Erland. So I have some questions, How powerful is Tomas after the Lifestone was destroyed? Do Tomas and Pug have a part to play in Shards of a Broken Crown? Does anyone else think this was Feist's best (or close to best) book?

Definately one of his best.

It's just so hard for me to pick out one book above another.

I completely forgot about him getting hit by that arrow because I assumed he'd just pull through as most of the time they do. But when it mentioned he died at sea I was like, "Oh My God, that arrow bloody killed him."

I expected to see more of him after the Kings Bucaneer to be honest.

Hmmm, best? Hard to say. If one can get past the excellent introduction and foundation setting of Magician, I thought the way he worked Guy du Bas Tyra back into the plot in Silverthorn was great (I really was expecting him to just fade into history after Magician), and really enjoyed the whole story in A Darkness at Sethanon. I suppose King's Buccaneer was kind of foundational (didn't it take us into the other continent), but, taken as a story, nothing yet tops the first 3 books in my opinion. I liked Roo Avery as a character (I know a lot of others didn't), and found Rise of a Merchant Prince a good story for its different focus on Midkemia's commerce.

So, the best? Difficult choice.

This question has been discussed in many other posts (none of which I can locate at the moment) but I expect that we have yet to see the full extent of the powers of Tomas. I personally doubt that Tomas has actually lost any real power with the destruction of the Lifestone, as Ashen-Shugar had no involvement in its formation, and so had no power tied up within it. His only connection to the Lifestone would have been the same as every other living thing on Midkemia.

Tomas and Pug also have major parts to play in Shards of a Broken Crown, as does Nakar.
