Hi this is the first time I am posting here but I have been reading these threads for some time now. I just finished rereading A Game of Thrones and came across something I hope one of you guys can help me out with...

There seems to be an odd confusion with whom Robery Arryn was going to be a ward for. Those close to the boy (Lysa, Cat) say that Tywin was a possiblity but when Catelyn talks with Lord Frey he mentions that Robert was supposed to be a ward of Stannis and someone else (who I cannot remember) tells Cat or Eddard the same thing at King's Landing.

This most likely is nothing or perhaps you guys have already discussed this and coudl point me int he right direction. Thanks.

It supposed to be that way. U will find out as u keep reading that people lie and the truth isnt always what its seems. Keep reading and enjoy the twists and subtle plots behind plots :)

SPOILER FOR U-DONT READ IF U DONT WANT TO KNOW

Lord Arryn saw how sickly and weak, wild his son was and agreed for Stannis to take him to Dragonstone. One to be his ward and two to keep his son out of Lannister clutches while he was gathering information against them.

After Lord Arryn was killed Cersei used her influence and got her father to offer that the boy Arryn become HIS ward. That was Cerseis' doing so Lysa would keep her mouth shut about what Jon arryn knew and so she could use the boy as a hostage for Lysa silence.

I think the way CS said it is probably right... I think that I remember Eddard offering to King Robert to take little Robert to Winterfell, but the King said the boy was going to Casterly Rock. Whether this was decided before or after Jon Arryn died is unknown to me. But it seems clear that Jon had been in talks with Stannis regarding the boy being fostered at Dragonstone.

It would seem that Jaime's appointment as Warden of the East (traditionally a hereditary Arryn title) was part of the deal for Tywin to guarantee House Arryn's future after Jon's death.

Poor little Robert. I have a soft spot for a runt like him. His mother is to blame for much of his issues. I see Sansa possibly playing a major role in protecting him. Especially after she kills Littlefinger.
